Hello,
Has anyone considered that the woman may well be wearing a housecoat? It is 1940s or possibly later. GBP

Hi,
I think that it is somewhere in the 1920's. The chap on the right is a real dandy with his striped vest, spotted tie, tie pin and spat shoes. The bowler is very 20's. and tie pins were very fashionable at that time.
The chap on the left I agree is in some sort of riding outfit, however I can't make out what he is wearing under the jacket. The shirt looks as if it has been doctored in the photo as it has a strange sort of neckline -does any one else think this?  It looks very bright whatever it is. Great pic though.
Cheers, GBP

It seems that the marriage took place at the home of  a Mr A. Buchanan of Clyde St, Hamilton.
How can I search the BDM in NZ? Thanks.

This lady is proving to be a bit of a problem as there is not much info about her. We know that Pierce travelled back to OZ but apparently not with Mary.
Would there be anywhere in hamilton NZ that might hav einfo about her? GBP

New Zealand Completed Requests / Mary Elisabeth Martin
« on: Friday 27 January 12 02:24 GMT (UK)  »
Hello, I am looking for information on a Mary Elisabeth Martin who married Pierce (Peter) Purcell in Hamilton on 13th June 1866. She was apparently 16 years old at the the time and married with her fathers permission. He was George Martin of Galloway St, Hamilton.
The couple later seperated or perhaps Mary died as Pierce returned to Melbourne and married again in 1873. I don't know if there were any children from the marriage to Mary.
Any info would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, GBP

Hi there,
At a guess this is around the mid 1920's. Any earlier and the hemline would be lower and later towards the 1930's the silhoutte became more fluid and softer looking. Not a particular flattering look for the bride? Husband is very handsome with his 3 piece suit, watch chain and bowler hat. His wing collar is quite formal. There is almost a European feel to this couple but it may just be the flowers that the bride seems to have all over her! GBP

Dear Gerry, Thank you SO MUCH for this info. There is a photo of him wearing the two medals, one being the Idian mutiny medal so the other must be the GSM. What is that?
I would like to have ANY info that you may be able to give me, as he is my father's grandfather. My father is now 94 years old and finds all this research fascinating.
Thank you for your time and patience, GBP

Thanks Neil,

What is the 3115 number?  Is it just his number on the list?

I would like to find out when he left the British Army if possible as he appears in Australia by 1863 and went to fight in the Maori Wars in NZ as a volunteer.

Thanks for the info, GBP
