The Common Room / Re: Find My Past Download Page from Newspaper

By trial and error I found out how to do it.  You do have to use the clip, but use the Print option, not the Save File option, this gives you the option to Save As PDF.

Thanks for the reply.  I have tried that, but it saves the page as a jpg file, I used to get a pdf file.

The Common Room / Find My Past Download Page from Newspaper
« on: Sunday 13 October 24 13:25 BST (UK)  »
I've been downloading pages from Newspapers for years by clicking on Download Page as seen in my second screenshot.  Today I get a different screen format without a Download Page option as seen in my first screenshot.  Have they amended things, or am I doing something wrong.

Yes, my mistake, the loyalty discount is 15%.

I just got a reply from Findmypast which says "I am sorry for the confusion this email was sent in error, it was not intended for Premium subscribers I am afraid.

You will renew as normal with the 15% loyalty discount."

The Common Room / FindMyPast renewal

I've been a Findmypast subscriber for years, and it always renews on the expiry date (28 Nov) with the 20% loyalty discount.  Today (27 Oct) I received an email from them which says "Come back to Findmypast with 20% off when you resubscribe. You’ll need to be quick, this short-lived offer ends on Saturday 29 October."  I have written to them for clarification.

The Common Room / 3 features that I would like Ancestry to implement.
« on: Sunday 25 September 22 12:25 BST (UK)  »
1. Provide the option to sort on the columns. If you display the births registered for the name of Brown, there are an awful lot of entries.  It would be nice to get them presented in forename order, or place of birth, etc.

2. An indicator to say that we had previously viewed the page.

Find My Past already has both these options.

3. The ability to only show entries that have been added or amended in a specific time period, such as "All entries", "last 3 months", "last year" so that we can instantly see only the entries that have been added since our last check.

I sometimes get an e-mail from Ancestry to send them my ideas for improving the site, and I always reply, but it makes no difference.

I'm sure you all have your own "wish list" for Ancestry, and also Find My Past.

The Common Room / Re: Find My Past-British Newspapers
« on: Thursday 09 December 21 12:17 GMT (UK)  »
My original post now seems to work perfectly, so maybe Find My Past has updated something.  I might add that this is not something that I found for the first time today, it has been bothering me for months, so it's not just a temporary mistake.

However it only seems to be fixed for the Weekly Dispatch.  If you try searching for "Slate-Club" on Reynold's Newspaper for 14th December 1930, the link shown doesn't work, but by using the method provided by cuffie81, the article can be found on Page 8, even though they say there are only 3 pages.  How can you have a newspaper with 3 pages anyway.

Thank you cuffie81.  I tried your method and it works perfectly, but by adapting that method slightly produces a better result.

By still searching for "Cropper", but adding the filter to only search for the Weekly Dispatch for that date, displays the correct link that takes you directly to the article.

It's not ideal, but it seems to work, thanks for putting me on the right track.

Ive jut put in all the filters that you've listed and only 2 refs came up.

Was this what you were wanting:

https://search.findmypast.co.uk/bna/viewarticle?id=bl%2f0003359%2f19301207%2f021&stringtohighlight=cropper

That is the same page that I get, but there is no mention of the required article on this page.

I do have an update to report.  After posting on this forum, I tried contacting Find My Past again, and this time I got a reply which states:

Good Morning

Thank you for your email

I have checked and can see a problem with this record

I have raised this with our technical teams and will let you know once we have an update!

Kind Regards

I'll report if I get any progress.
