I'm still following this thread. It's not abandoned.

The speculated maiden name was "Chartress"
I just wanted confirmation

Hi John

WOW.....  :o
As luck would have it, I stumbled across this during a Google search.

It too have a Family Book, given to me by my Father.
The book was my grand father's, the later George Chartress Unwin.

The inscription inside the book says, it was given to him by his god mother (one of the Kirkby sisters)
Forgive me, I had not handled the book in many years, to minimise any further damage.
But im fairly sure it was Anne

My Family Tree reveals that :-
William Unwin (b 1840) married Mary Kirkby (b 1846)
Their oldest Son John Unwin and wife Sarah would be the Mr & Mrs J Unwin in the cutting.
Horase Unwin (b 1872) his brother, Marion Unwin his sister (b 1876) and
Daughter Gertrude Unwin, would fit in with the initialled names.

I can only speculate that the Mrs Unwin was her sister Mary Unwin.

Unfortunately, we are not directly related.
But i too have a particular interest in this particular part of my tree, and maybe you can help.

Do you have any document, record or notes mentioning the "Maiden Name" of your great grand mother's Mother (also called Elizabeth b 1809)
This would draw a conclusion to many years of speculation. I know for sure, the two family's were very very close indeed.

If by any chance you read this message.
If you could post a JPG of the cutting, here, it would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks to your post, I now have a fresh material to trace the marriage trails of my Unwin sisters

I know Four years is a long shot, to be chasing this up.
But i can wait another Four, or more, i guess

Many Thanks
Fraser Unwin.
