This information is in a hand written family entry in the front of a book with other family birth, marriage and death details. Also recorded is that he was "castway" 25 May 1816 off Bonesarus (Buenos Aires?) and arrived at Hull 27 Oct 1816. To date my researches have been totally unsuccessful in trying to corroborate or add to this information. Has anyone any ideas or Knowledge that might assist me?

I have just picked up your post of about a year ago. I am a descendant of the Yeates and  Tesseyman families. My connection comes when Elizabeth Yeates married William Appleton and their son James married Elizabeth Tesseyman. Their son Ralph Appleton is my great-grandfather. I was fortunate to get a reply to a post I put on Rootschat about an Appleton farm in Dishforth which is now apparently under the airfield. It was from an Appleton 3rd cousin who has researched the Appletons very extensively. He/We had a problem with which William Tesseyman was "our William" and it was eventually agreed that it was the one born in Husthwaite. If you have proof of that we would be grateful to hear about it and would be willing to share other information.
I look forward to some further exchange of information.  Brian

I am happy to help if I can and share what details I have managed to glean from various sources. My grand mother was an Appleton before she married. Brian

My searches have led me to a series of postings starting 26 September 2006 by Eirwen. I am interested in Daniel born 1882. I have most of the data available on line but he registered the death at his parents house of a great-aunt of mine.

Thank you Dave for your information. I had found some newspaper records of the auction of the Rose and Crown. The notice of auction was in the Lincolnshire Chronicle for Friday 2nd Sep. 1842. He can also be found in poll books for Fleet. I found these after the initial boost t5hat I had from replies to my initial post.

Dear RayDen.
The Thomas name following James James at Duffryn farm is one of those coincedences that might send one on a wild goose chase. Indeed I believe that John Thomas never did live there also. The google map you have indicated does not help at present but it would appear that it is the right area.

RayDen. Thank you for the reply and you are on the right man. I will try the google reference tomorrow.  James James had 7 children I believe. Rosina was the youngest.

Monmouthshire / Territorial or Militia Service Records 1898 to 1919

John Davies Thomas was born in Gwynfe, Carmathenshire 18 08 1875. Sometime after 1898 he moved to the Blackwood area of Monmouthshire. He worked as an agent on an estate and lived in Penllwyn Villa which I believe was near the railway south of Blackwood. I have good records from marriage, death and census sources and now I am searching for the estate on which he worked and for information about his connection with the military and maybe with the scouts. Family information suggests that he served in the Royal Field Artillary in WW1 probably in a Territorial or Militia capacity prior to the war as I think that he was recruited for the 2nd Boar War but did not leave the UK. He appears to be one of those soldiers whose records for WW1 do nor survive although I have 2 references to a JD Thomas being awarded service medals.
Can anyone lead me to further search opportunities please?
