Lancashire Lookup Requests / Re: St.John's, Preston 1835 - marriage look up please.

Hello Radcliffe - thanks for all that information.  Defiitely given me lots to think about and to go on :).

On the record for Thomas' death in India in 1840, it gives his age as 23.  That would make him 15/16 at the birth of Robert in 1832 and 17 at the birth of Mary Ann in 1833 - a little young in both instances but certainly not impossible.

I see from GenUKI that Fishwick is a Towship of Preston in 1833 - so it's certainly the right area :).

That is the record for JTT's birth in India.

Baptism - 14th April 1839
Place                          - Meerut
Parents                       - Thomas Thompson, Corp 3rd Lt-Dragoons; Isabella
Baptised by                 - J Whiting, Chaplain

Burial of Thomas Thompson     - 20th September 1840
Place                                                          - Cawnpore Cemetery, Meerut

Cause of death was Black Fever.

I have a family letter stating that Thomas and Isabella both caught Black Fever.  They were due to return back home to England when Thomas died.  After his burial, his widow and child boarded a ship for England.  Isabella died and was buried at sea after which JTT was placed into the care of the captain.  On arrival in England, he was given over to Thomas' family in Preston.

The next record of him is on the 1851 Census - age 11/12 - living with John and Prunella Thompson.

In 1860 he is recorded as being married - age 21 - at St.Mary's, Prescot to Anne Stobbs.

On 1861 Census he's registered - age 22 - living in Brook Street, St.Helens with his wife.

Thanks for your efforts on my behalf  ;D

Thank you so much for your quick replies!

I certainly didn't expect anything so quickly - cheers for that.

I don't think it's the same Thomas Thompson and Isabella, though.  My Thomas Thompson died in India in 1840 (of Black Fever) while serving with the 3rd Light Dragoons.  His widow died at sea in the same year - also of Black Fever - while returning home with their son.  Their son (James Turner Thompson) was born in India and, on arrival back in England, was given over to the care of his father's family in Preston.

Turner Thompson (witness to marriage of John and Prunella Thompson) certainly explains the unusual middle name of my g-g-grandfather.  On some census records 'Prunella' is spelt incorrectly.

I'm thinking that, maybe, the Thompson family originated in Northumberland region.

I can't find any reference to Thomas Thompson (or Isabella) prior to 1839 when they registered James Turner Thompson and had him baptised at Meerut, Uttar Pradesh, India.  Thomas is buried at Cawnpore/Kanpur Cemetery.

Once again, thanks for your efforts on my behalf.

Does anybody on here have access to these records and also have the time to help me, please?

Marriage of John THOMPSON to Prunella SOUTHWORTH - December 1835.  I would be grateful for clarification of witnesses names etc.

Possible marriage of Thomas (poss Thos) THOMPSON to Isabella ??? around 1835 to 1837.

Thank you.

Some 'Hoey's' went from Termonfeckin to St.Helens, Lancashire (now Merseyside) around 1870.

My own family were 'Harmon' from Termonfeckin and they seem to have had close connections with the 'Hoey's' -  they were very close neighbours on Census records.  After settling in St.Helens one of the Harmon girls married one of the Hoey boys.

I have more name details if anybody is interested.
