Hi Merilyn,

The best school in and around Wotton-under-Edge is and was Katharine Lady Berkeley School, or KLB as it is known, which was founded in 1384. It is still going strong.
However it did not become co-educational until 1900 so might not have been the first school attended by your ancestor.
You can find out about the school at http://cotswoldedge.org.uk/w-u-e/klb.htm#

The parish of St. Augustine in Bristol refers to Bristol Cathedral which is situated on College Green. College Place and St. George's Road ran along behind College Green. To the best of my knowledge, The Boars Head pub is no longer there.

The reference to Sir John Henry Greville Smyth is probably to do with the fact that he, along with Richard Symes and two others, were the owners of Durdham Down in Bristol. They sold it to the City Corporation by Act of Parliament in 1861. You can view a copy of the Act at: http://www.bristol.gov.uk/ccm/cms-service/download/asset/?asset_id=19029109

The only matching marriage from B&A FHS Bristol Marriage Index 1813-1837 is the following:

St Paul, Portland Square
30 Oct 1828 John Gillard OTP to Eliza Williams OTP by banns

Hope this helps

Hi ,
I hope the following is of some help.

From BAFHS Index to Bristol Marriages 1813-1837
Register 3d Westerleigh Page 22 No 65
William BELCHER of Chipping Sodbury, GLS to
Lucy SMALLCOMB of Westerleigh, GLS
at St.James the Great, Westerleigh, GLS by Banns
7 Aug 1822

From Gordon Beavington's Transcription of 1851 Census, GLS
Brookridge, Frampton Cotterell, GLS
BELSHER John 29 Coal Miner Westerleigh
Hester 24 Mangotsfield
Robert 2 Monmouthshire ??
Mary 6m Frampton C.

I found to trace of William or Lucy in GLS in 1851, possibly they moved to MON with John in 1840s and stayed there.
