Elizabeth, Joseph, Thomas Spunner, Charles and William. Children of Jonathan Shortt and Anna Maria were baptised in St Paul’s Dublin. See Church records on Irishgenealogy.ie

THE Friends of the late Jonathan Shortt, who died suddenly on the 4th Instant, have deemed it advisable to enter into subscription, for the benefit his Widow and eight young Children, whom he left totally destitute.
To the Profession with which he was more immediately connected, it is unnecessary to make any statement; he was known to them all, and highly respected, both for his ability and integrity, but to those who were not personally acquainted with him, it is necessary to state that he held a situation in the office of one of the Six Clerks of the Court of Chancery, for upwards of 35 years, during which period, he conducted the business of that office for upwards of twenty-seven years, and had acquired such an Intimate acquaintance with the principles and practice of the Court, that he was looked up to on all occasions for information, with a salary not more than commensurate with the demands of a large family; he was not enabled make a future provision for them.
Subscriptions will be received by the following Gentlemen, viz.: —Doctor Brereton, 19, Arran-quay; Darley, Esq., 31, Leeson-street; Jonathan Harding, Esq- 64, Queen street; William Shortt, Esq., No. 7, Richmond-street; Trustees, who have undertaken to see that the Subscriptions are applied to the object for which they arc intended.
James Newcomen, Esq., Secretary, Law Society, and at the Bank of J. D. La Touche and Co.,
Saunders’s News-Letter 30 May 1832 and 6th June 1832, 9th June, 17th June

His furniture was sold 8th June; See Saunders’s News-letter 2 June 1832 and his Library on 4th June see Saunders’s Newsletter 4th June.

Called to the Bar:  John Shortt eldest son of the late Jonathan Shortt, late of Blackhall Street in the city of Dublin Gent Attorney deceased FJ 3 Nov 1838.

I note comment that Grace was “only” Daughter in 1846 when she married. Had Elizabeth, Anna and Francis died along with one other to have eight surviving children in 1832?

So Jonathan was never in the military.

The Irish Ancestor is available on CD http://www.eneclann.ie/acatalog/ENEC009.html but the article gives no more information than I supplied. A list of heads of house.

The manuscripts at the National Library have to be consulted in situ.

House of Commons Papers Vol 9 in 1820 notes “Rev John Digby has cure of souls resides in a house of his own three miles from the church and performs the duties” This was New Park. See  A Topographical Dictionary of Ireland, 1837
In that the rev Digby was at Castlejordan from 1806 till his death in 1840 I presume you have had someone look at the registers in the RCB library in Dublin. One of them (234.1.3) has an inscription on the front page “Castlejordan Church / Rev John Digby Curate/ 1822”.

I need to do more work on the Bors who built Ballindoolin House, the home of a branch of the Tyrrells when the Bors left. http://www.ballindoolin.com/house.html I need to get to Genealogica and Heraldica on the Bors from which Google omit pages – why bother scanning? And it can’t be copied.

I am still looking into Osberstown House as the Digby residence. I should know it. I went there as a teenager to appear grown up when it was Lawlor’s Hotel!

Greeting from Khobar, Eastern Province, KSA.

Sacred to the memory of Revd. John Digby of Oberstown, late Incumbent of this parish who for 16 years served his country in the commission of peace, he was the poor man’s friend and by precept and example maintained harmony amongst his neighbours.

Interred here by permission of the Gifford Family.
This stone was erected to mark the place of his rest by his eldest son Simon.

Hi

Have you seen the burial of Elvyn Larmon from Prosperous at St Michael and All Angels in 1857. Aged 73. (B 1784)

http://thestewartsinireland.com/st%20michaels%20&%20all%20angles%20church.html

This is not surprising as it is probably the nearest graveyard to Downings other than Clane.

The 1901 has Larmons in Clane: Mrs Catherine Larmon born 1844 related to the Reillys. The 1911 has Christopher born 1855, a publican, with his wife Agnes. Larmon was related to the Seerys.

I'll leave it to the locals to help with geography as it's a long time since I used to cycle from Sallins to Prosperous and on to visit the Hills of Garravogue. Cyril in Kilmeague is well placed – I went to school there.
