Hi Nick,

You could actually view the index using pay as you go credits rather than a subscription. However the problem is whether or not the articles you're looking for are available as images (some are) or just indexed.

Have you checked the websites for the publications to see if they do back issues at all?

I think that both of these publications are available on PERSI (Periodical Source Index) which you can access if you've got a worldwide subscription on findmypast.
