Married William, they had John J Who died in Kentucky in the early 1900's
My Records also show this but im struggling with some conflicting information when i get back to Johns parents.
my line back is my Nan Catherine who was the eldest of the family to my great grandfather Patrick who was johns Son. my mum has Patricks birth certificate or a copy of this as its dated the 29th december 1919, possibly the original got lost or he needed this to get married. The parents are listed as John Darby coal miner and Marry Ann Darby (M A Mullan) but nothing came up until i started to look at Mullen.
My mum told me there was always some secrecy surrounding John and no one in the family really talked about it. The story she managed to get was that he left Kilmarnock to work a team of horses for a rich Irish family (possibly Tobacco) there he met and married the daughter, so she married beneath herself. She later died giving birth and he lived with someone else the elder children we basically kicked out on the streets. John bought 2 tickets for him and Patrick to go to America but during this time John’s brother was on the run from the police and he used Patrick’s ticket instead.
When John died I’m told that a black man who looked after him wrote to the family requesting if he could keep johns belongings including a watch. The family wrote back and said keep his belongings. That was the last they heard.
The story does seem a little out of some romantic novel, and research has shown different.....
