Hello Heywood,

I was told by the Grandchildren of John (Jnr) that he was the only one that moved to England.  They do remember their parents (John Jnr's children) visiting "the family in Ireland", but that's all the information we have.

The Horan family match the details of my O'Hara family.  I have done a search in the 1911 census using the address from the 1901 census and they are not listed.  If it is my Ellen in the 1911 census,  do you know if it was common to leave children at an Industrial School?  I had never heard of this type of establishment.  They seem to have dissappeared!

Thank you annclare.  Your link gives me some hope of finding more records.

Possibly family in 1901 transcribed as O Hora- Ellens birth 16 Aug 1900 fromm rootsireland gives Ballinulty as residence.
http://census.nationalarchives.ie/pages/1901/Tipperary/Cullen/Ballinulty/1717897/

Also marriage cert gives John's age as 22 when married in 1891 and on census 1901 age 40 so perhaps birth pre 1864 would have to look at parish records. Glenbane is in Cullen and Lattin parish and these are available online for free at parish registers NLI.

Added: Index to Lattin parish records online for free at http://www.irelandgenweb.com/irltip/records.htm#church   May help in search.

John Jnr may have been in Yorkshire.  His siblings other than Margaret remained in Ireland.  Margaret did not marry and I was able to find her death record.   John's parents (John and Margaret) also remained in Ireland.

I did find a death record for a Pat O'Hara.  It stated he was a school teacher and died in a Union Workhouse in Tipperary in 1904.

I was not able to find any records in the 1911 Irish census.  Nor was I able to find any records for William.  I am really trying to find any family that may be in Ireland.

I have birth records for three of John Jnrs siblings.  They are

1892 Patrick - born Longstone
1898 Mary - born Longstone
1900 Ellen - born Ballinulty

Was unable to find any birth records for these two.
1891 Kate
1897 Joseph

There is a family story goes that Joseph was shot by the black and tans and that is the reason John Jnr moved to England.  I have been able to find the English family, but not the family that remained in Ireland.

I have hit a wall, and living in Australia makes even more difficult.

Thank you

Marie

Marie,
Where are your family in 1911?

Hello,

I actually have the marriage record and it is dated 19 July 1891.  It was their son John that served in the military and he did not marry till after WW1.

I do not have any military records as my Gfather did not talk openly to his children about his military service, and they have now all passed away.

Thank you for your assistance

Regards

marie

this cert or one of their childrens  births should tell you when he was first a soldier.
Have you got his military records which should give next of kin at time of inlistment.

Hello Heywood,

Thank you for your reply.  The published tree is actually mine.

I have not been able to obtain any further information.

Thank you again,

Marie

Hello Marie,

The marriage certificate is shown in a published tree.
John O'Hara was a servant on marriage. His father is named as Pat O'Hara, a schoolteacher and a witness is William O'Hara.

That may help.

Hello, I am trying to locate the family of my Grandfather, John O'Hara.  He was born in 1892 in Longstone.  His parents were John O'Hara and Margaret Birrane.  They married in 1891 and at that time were living in Glenbane.  Margaret was born in 1863 in Oola, Limerick.  Unfortunately I have nit been able to find a birth record for John Snr.  John and Margaret had several children (Kate, Patrick, John, Margaret, Mary and Ellen).  John (my Grandfather) enlisted in WW1 and fought in Passchendale.  Not sure if he joined when he was in Ireland, or while he was living in Yorkshire, England.

There is a family story that one of John's brothers was shot by the Black and Tan's.  I know that John's (my Gfather) children visited his family in Ireland, but over the years have lost contact.  Unfotunately John passed away in 1982 and his children have also since died.

Any help in trying to locate family members would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance

Marie

Hello Willis1, I have tried to send you a PM, but I got an error message stating your mailbox was full.

David's GG grandfather (Christopher) and my husband's GG grandfather(Edward) were brothers.  Edward married Alice Moloney in Middlesborough, England and had several children (John, Edward, Patrick and Mary Ellen).  Their daughter was my husband's grandmother.  I would like to be able to get some more information about Edward and Christopher's parents (Patrick Moore and Mary Jordan).  Do you have any photo's and also any information about their siblings.  I know they had twin brothers, Peter and Patt, who were born in 1847.  Any information would be appreciated as we live in Australia and have difficulty obtaining records.  Thank you in advance.

Marie

David, I seem to have deleted the message you sent me and cannot remember the information you gave me.  My apologies.

I was able to get the details of Patricks parents from the NSW Australia assisted immigrant passenger list.  His mother was Catherine O'Neill.  Both Catherine and Edward are listed as deceased at the time Patrick migrated to Australia.

Hi Marie,
Apologies for the long delay in replying to your post.  I see that Edward was the father of your Patrick, I was wondering whether you had managed to find any more information on your Reynolds' family of Dromoland?

I found another family with very similar names in Mouhane and Aldecotty which is very close to Dromoland and then of course one at Rathfolan.  With the close proximity and very similar names it is very hard to pinpoint who is who.

I look forward to hearing of any progress.

Warm regards.
