Re the East India Company & The Essex - have you been up to the British Museum in London to view their ships records?  Worth doing if you can get there - the Captain's Logs are available to read (the actual books themselves, not microfiche).

I got a lot of information for a relative of mine from the log (including the longitude and latitude of his burial!)

I'm at work at the moment so i'll have another look at home tonight when i have access to all the records - but an October wedding wouldn't have been backdated on the register so something isn't quite right there.  Probably best to order the certificate to double check, i'd have thought.

Will post further details tonight.

The only Susannah I can find born to a William is in Chevening, Kent, same in 1841.

but interestingly i have Susannah marrying James Boreham in the Jul/Aug/Sept qtr of 1855...not 54, St George Southwark, ref 1d 167.

Carmel...

I have a William & Sarah Whitlock in my tree - their daughter Harriet b c1810 Bermondsey Surrey is my ggggrandmother.  I haven't got any information on William and Sarah as I too have struggled tracing the name back - any possible relation??
