World War Two / HMS MILE? WW2
« on: Wednesday 29 January 25 21:52 GMT (UK)  »
I have my late Uncle's Service Record for WW2. He served on a number of ships; HMS Barham; HMS Excellent are two on the record. However there appears HMS Mile (Western Desert) which he served on from August '41 to June '42. I have tried to find this ship but have been unsuccessful so if anyone has any information on this ship it would be appreciated.

England / Married three times but who was the first wife?

Looking for marriage info on George Whitton, b abt 1814 in Retford Nottinghamshire died 1883 as a result of a tragic accident involving a train.
His second marriage was to Ellen Bell in 1844 in Yorkshire which is where he spent most of his life, his occupation was as a Cordwainer. His marriage certificate clearly shows his Condition as Widower. This where I've come to a grinding halt. Who was his first wife and where & when did he marry her. I've looked through Ancestry with no success so any help is greatly appreciated

Firstly thanks again for all the info; I've added all the info posted and I now info up to 1940. He passed exams in 1940 and in 1941 he was involved in convoy and mine-sweeping work until his ship was attacked in August 1941. He was evacuated to Cambridge after his hospital on the south coast was bombed. I know nothing of his war service after that.
I'm trying to find the ships that he served on. Is there a website where I can search for his service records? I now have Ancestry but nothing on there.
