Cumberland Lookup Requests / Re: Burns family 1841 and 1851

Hello Ian
The line I have been researching is Elizabeth born 1840 - baptised at Brigham.  She married Joseph Whinn in 1861 at Cockermouth Reg Office.

Elizabeth is my friend's Great Grandmother.  I have quite a bit info on the family but also a number of gaps I have been unable to fill.  I would appreciate any help and would be willing to share information with you.

I'll send you a private e-mail

Durham Lookup Requests / Re: 1871 Census - Gateshead area CHARLTON

What can I say .... I'm overwhelmed .... and apologise for not getting back to Rootschat sooner.  I am printing off your info to digest it better.  I've been researching the Marshall family - connected through Edward Charlton's daughter Isabella.  Edward was living with Isabella in the 1891 census, he was age 80.  Isabella married John Marshall in 1852
I was hitting a brickwall with this family - although I had them on a few census records.  They appear to have raised young Thomas Marshall - Butcher.

I am extremely grateful for all the information you're sharing with me Peter and of course thank you to Pels too for the 1871 info.

I'm going to make a cup of tea and read your info through
Thank you again

Thank you Gina ........... looks like my Edward.  I've been searching around Heworth - if North Shipcote is where I think it is, I would never have thought of searching there.
Very grateful, thanks

Does anyone have an 1851 index for the Gateshead area?  I would appreciate it if someone could help me locate the following family:-

EDWARD CHARLTON  age 40  born Bedlington ......  Agricultural Labourer
ANN   wife  age 44 born Gosforth
children:  George 9yrs  Ann 6yrs  and Hannah age 1yr all born Heworth

I've been trawling the census but cannot find them.  In 1861 they were located at Beacon Lough, Gateshead.

If anyone can help with a location I would be very grateful.
Thank you
Bee

Thank you Michael - I do use the first name  method on occasion - this time though, I knew nothing of the family other than the name of Robert's father and possible occupation - which I gleaned from a copy marriage cert.

I also try various spellings for surnames  - but I didn't have any luck with this one .......  I have now located the 1841 & 1851 census images for William. How I wish my CD's were name indexed.

Sometimes I find it useful to search the indexes on some of the subscription sites - if I'm lucky I can more or less locate the area my person is in - then find them on my census CD's.  I still haven't located Robert on the 1861 census - probably due to a name variation.

Very grateful for all your help ....... thanks again

Michael & Steve
Thanks so much for your help.  I do have the census images to hand but I'd trawled unsuccessfully - needles in haystacks comes to mind. Just hoped that someone had indexes that could help me zoom in after many fruitless hours of searching.
You've both helped - I shall hopefully be able to move back on this line now.

Robert was noted as a cartman in 1871 and later census - Ag Lbr.  He gave his birth place as Morpeth - Bothal is quite near so could be on the right track. As a note of interest - most of my husband's ancestors are interred at Bothal.

Thank you both - your help is very much appreciated
