Hi,

Alexander and Mary are my grandfather's parents. Unfortunately I don't have much information on them (but I do have the details of all their children and some grandchildren), but I'm more than happy to share the information and family anecdotes I do have.

Once you've made 3 posts you'll be able to PM.

Diddy you're a wonder! Thanks so much! I thought Holroyd fitted too well to be a coincidence.

Yorkshire (North Riding) / Thomas EASTERBY - Convict to Australia
« on: Wednesday 31 March 10 13:23 BST (UK)  »
I am trying to find information on Thomas EASTERBY born about 1816 in Kirkbymoorside. He was convicted of theft in 1847 and transported to Tasmania in 1852.

His convict records in 1852 state that he was informed of his wife's death and he is now a widower with 4 children. Any idea how I could find out what happened to those children?  I've searched the the 1841 census with a possible match, however the wife in that family still appears in the 1861 census (although without a husband, but with 2 more children.)

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Archibald's obituary in the Gundagai Times reads:

Illabo correspondent: It is my sad duty to report the death of Mr A McLean, formerly of Ballengeoch, near Junee, but who had latterly been living with his family on the Bethungra Park estate, Illabo. The deceased gentlyman at one time owned considerable property, and was noted for his unbounded hospitality. He also took considerable interest in the framing of the show association, Junee, of which he was a member. Misfortune befell him in his old age, and his fine estate was swept away from him. He leaves a wife and large family, most of whom are totally unprovided for. Very general sympathy is expressed for them. The cause of death was simply a break up of the system. The age of the deceased was somewhere about 65 years.

Arch and Elizabeth's oldest son Alexander was my Great Grandfather, and I have a fair amount of information about the family, especially about Archibald if you're interested.
