Ancestral Family Tree DNA Testing / Re: Ancestry DNA - nil regional results?
« on: Tuesday 25 June 19 22:04 BST (UK)  »
I rechecked my results but no updates yet. Presumably these are done automatically? The linked conversation is interesting. I note the suggestion that you are more likely to get a local reading if your ancestors were settled for longer in  the area. My Scots/Irish ancestors did migrate a bit between Scotland, Ireland, Wales and England, whereas my Welsh antecedents were/are strongly based in the same area so this might explain  why that area was specified. Although my belief was that my English family was heavily tied to London and the M25 area over the last 250 years.Maybe they moved about more than I realised!

Ancestral Family Tree DNA Testing / Ancestry DNA - nil regional results?
« on: Monday 24 June 19 16:32 BST (UK)  »
I have just received my ethnicity results from Ancestry showing

67 % England /Wales/NW Europe (range 67-99%)
33% Scotland/Ireland ( range 0-33%)

The mid ranges i.e 83%/17% is pretty much exactly what I expected. I consulted the regional breakdown for the two regions as I was keen in particular to locate which region in Ireland I had a connection to. But I was disappointed to discover that apart from an unquantified connection to North Wales, every other subdivision on the two specified regions had 'no connection'. How can the results show a match to region but then nothing for the subdivisions?

Would be grateful if someone better informed than me could explain what is going on. Apologies if it should be obvious - I am quite new to the whole DNA topic.

Thanks

Montgomeryshire / Re: Francis / Jones family - Llanerfyl/Llanfair Montgomeryshire

Sorry but none of the names you mention ties into my own research. But you are right - there are an awful lot of Jones's and unless you have supplementary details they are very elusive!

If you have access to the UK censuses, say from 1851, they would be the quickest way to find children of the marriages described.

Best of luck

Hi Nia, John P was my gg grandfather too! My tree is on Ancestry (Green family tree) if you have access to this - alternatively if you want to contact me privately , I can send the information I have.

Thanks KerryDave but the William Jones I seek definitely married in Montgomeryshire and I am sure remained here. Best of luck with your future investigations.

Merionethshire / Llandecwyn - birth / marriage details
« on: Tuesday 09 April 13 20:51 BST (UK)  »
My gg grandfathers brother, John Jones was b. c 1808 in Llanfihangel y Pennant. However, he worked in Llandecwyn in the 1840s as a joiner. His wife Margaret was b Llandecwyn c.1820 and at least two children, Margaret c 1843 and Robert c 1846 were born in the parish.

It is a fair assumption that John and Margaret were m.in Llandecwyn between 1837 and 1843; bearing in mind Margaret's age, more likely towards the end of this period. The post 1837 civil records are inconclusive so I am hoping someone may have access to the parish records for the marriage and the birth records for the two children. Many thanks.

Montgomeryshire Lookup Requests / 1861 Census - Edwards/Jones
« on: Sunday 10 February 13 17:30 GMT (UK)  »
I am looking for the Edwards/Jones family who managed Pwll yr Hwch farm in the township of Cyffin just north of Llangadfan and near to Llwydiarth. I have their records here for 1851/81 and 91 but can't find the 1861 details. The principle members are likely to have been

Thomas Edwards b abt 1807 Llanfair;
his wife
Ann Edwards b abt 1813 Llangadfan
their daughter
Ann (Jones) nee Edwards b abt 1840 Llangadfan
and son in law
William Jones b abt 1836 Llangadfan

Many thanks
