Abigail2:  I have some very sketchy information related to a Gray family member in Coatbridge.  My great-grandmother Jane Shepherd was born in 1853, daughter of Alexander Neilson and Agnes Gray.  Unfortunately I have no other earlier information about the Gray's but I suppose it is possible that Agnes was a sister to Janet.  If you do uncover any more information, please let me know and I will do the same.

The thread where I originally encountered your post about the Neilsons is entitled "The Nelson (or Nielson) Line" which was initiated by tommacgregor on 20 January 2008 in the Fife section.   James's death was 1928 as you had stated.  1923 is the year that their son John died.  His death is noted on the Neilson stone at Gartsherrie, which you had shown as 1925.  He is buried at Old Monkland and his stone there shows 1923.

Anne,  I'm sorry to have posted in another of your threads but I had not yet come across this thread at the time.  I was interested to see your post about my great-grandparents (on my paternal grandmother's side) in Gartsherrie churchyard.  For the record, I have James Neilson's date of death at 26th January 1928 from information his daughter Margaret got from the Scots Ancestry Research Society some years ago.  Also I have a photograph of John Neilson's stone in Old Monkland cemetary which shows his year of death as 1923, and the aforementioned Margaret is also buried in the same plot.  Incidentally, my great-grandparents on my paternal grandfather's side are also buried at Old Monkland.  As I indicated in my other post, it seems unlikely that these Neilsons were related to the Fife Nielsons.  James was born in Old Monkland and his father and grandfather were both born in St Ninians, Stirlingshire.

Ann,  I apologize for an unrelated post here but I wanted to contact you regarding a post which you made a couple of years ago on a thread related to the Nielsons of Fife (now locked) which I just discovered today.  You posted there about the Neilson family you found in Gartsherrie churchyard.  James Neilson and Jane Shepherd were my great-grandparents and based on information I have, their ancestors do not match with any of the names/dates in the Nielson thread.  Since you seem to have some knowledge of the Coatbridge area, I would be interested in further contact with you.

Moderator's Comment: think this is the thread where this should be:
