You are in luck!  The family that owns the Granelli ice cream shop in Macclesfield has some great info, if we are speaking of the same Angelo Granelli b 1882, d 1957 and married to Maria Corrato.  We are linked via Maria, so only by marriage to the Granelli's. I have not fully explored the Granelli line itself.

Peter Devoti, of Granelli Ice Cream, has traced the Granelli family all the way back to the 1500’s in Italy and is a Granelli descendent and was a wonderful help for our side of the family too. Granelli's I believe are from Lavagna Italy and still return often.

Allan,
Thank you.  I don't know if this Divote will link up to Maria, but my search continues.
Nina, I have a family history page of the Granelli's that Julie's uncle sent to us.
No Agostino, but I will pm you with some other names preceding Agostino that may help your search.

Thank you for responding...Julie!
Wonderful to meet another distant relative.  Yes, it was our recent connection with another Oliva family member that met with your relatives recently.  They have been so wonderful and helpful.  Love all the photos they have been giving us as well. Be sure to thank them from their fascinated relatives in Michigan.  We only recently confirmed our Italian heritage.   Emanuel was born in UK, but changed his last name to Oliver upon coming to the US, so Oliva was a newly confirmed surname :o

Thank you for clearing up that there is not a Devoti...Divote connection.  The birth certificate of our Emanuel Oliva looks to be DIVOTE as does the marriage cert. of Giovani and Maria.  This name does not come up on Italian surname searches, so I thought it may have been changed, as is often the case.   We'll hunt for other Divote families in the NW.

Thank you!  I will forward this to my UK distant cousin who has been in touch with the Granelli's.  Maybe she can do the same for us.

I am new to rootschat and new to our Ice Cream making, street musician family links.  I come to you from the US, but my ggrandpa was born Emanuel Oliva in Bury, Lancashire (Oliver in US) and his father, Giovani was a listed as a traveling minstral on his birth registry in 1859 and musicians in census records.  Giovani Oliva (father Giovani) married Maria Divote/Devote(father Nicholas) 1844 in Liverpool and they ran a boarding house in Liverpool.  The Oliva's daughter and granddaughter married into the Granelli's of Macclesfield family and thus the ice cream connection.  I am interested in the Devote/Divote connection and wondering if Maria is connected and in tracing the Oliva and Divote family back to Italy.
The Oliva's later moved to Macclesfield.  Just now connecting with the Granelli's and wondering if the Guido Devoti that married into the Granelli family may also be related to our Maria...so many name variations.

Have heard Maria Divote may have been from the Liguria region.

Have read the victorian pages on the thread and wow...such a negative discription.  Much like our Irish ancestors in US.

Julia Williams
Hello to a distant cousin.
Julia we too have just connected our family to the Granelli family in two generations.  Angelina Oliva married Fortunato Granelli and her niece Maria Veronica Corroto married Angelo Granelli.   We are decendents of Angelina's brother Emanuel who emmigrated to America at 15 yrs old.  Our questions lie with their mother Maria Devote Oliva who married Giovanni Oliva  (may be Devoti or other variation).  We know the Granelli's and Devoti's are also related by marriage and I am wondering if our Maria may fit in with your Guido Devoti family.   I know your Madelina is Maria Veronica Corroto's daughter.

Do you have any ancestry beyond Guido (his parents etc) and where they were from in Italy.  I have heard the Oliva's are from Lavagna.   I write to you from Michigan in USA.  We have a relative in UK doing some wonderful work and met the Granelli family.  Any help would be wonderful.
