South Africa / German prisoners of Boer War
« on: Tuesday 30 July 13 11:38 BST (UK)  »
Hi - I have been researching my Grandfather who was of German Descent, he moved to England and then emigrated to South Africa between 1897 and 1899. His name is Adam Schmidt, born in Germany in 1874 ( we believe Cologne) he was a Tailor working in Saville Row London before he emigrated to South Africa. He married Amelia Frankenberg in 1899, marriage registered in Port Elizabeth. We believe that he was interned by the British during the Boer War due to his German heritage, and we are trying to establish as to whether any lists exist showing when he was interned. Any information would be gratefully recieved. Thanks in advance.

Lancashire Lookup Requests / Re: Census after1861

Hi Everyone

thanks for your help so far, putting the pieces together we have concluded that Thomas Wood married Ann Shaw in 1836, however we found a death for an Ann Wood in 1854 (age shows as 39).

We have assumed that Thomas married for a second time, as his Son Isaac was born in 1855. The 1861 census shows Ann Wood as being 28 - hence being much younger than her husband Thomas. So we are now looking for another marriage for Thomas between 1854 and 1855 - not sure if the area is Lancashire or Cheshire, so we would be grateful for any help in finding this marriage.

Thanks in advance

Margaret
