Thanks Lodger. I do have plenty of information about the ancestors of this family. I know that the daughter, Elizabeth, married James Gardiner and that they had 2 children by 1901. I think that her younger sister Jane was also with them in Stonehouse in 1901. I'm really looking for the two sons: John born in 1860 and Thomas Stewart born in 1866.

Lanarkshire / Hamiltons of Bogside, Stonehouse
« on: Wednesday 14 July 10 20:46 BST (UK)  »
James Hamilton of Bogside, Stonehouse d Feb 1879, his wife Mary Muter d 1874. In 1881 their children John (20), Elizabeth (23) Thomas Stewart (15) and Jane (11) were still there. Does anyone know where they went or what happened to them after 1881? Robert (18) was studying medicine in Glasgow and went on to practice in the Isle of Man where he died in 1922. Any leads appreciated.

Bertram Pottinger, b 1906 Berkshire, went to Australia (possibly in the 1920s) where he was "in newspapers" and he had a son. Picnic Point is mentioned in association with them. Does anyone know anything about them?

Harry Everest b 1863 Berkshire believed to have sailed for Sydney in January 1891. A younger brother Walter b 1864 may have joined him in 1892. No details of either one since then. Any descendants out there?

Lanarkshire / Re: Cochrane Family- Stobieside, Strathaven

John Cochran who married Barbara Findlay 15 Apr 1809 was the Brownside family. He was the son of John Cochran and Helen Hamilton (I think of Colinhill, Strathaven) and was one of 9 children, including triplets. Helen Hamilton died shortly after their birth in 1786. Any interest in exchanging information?

Many thanks to both Leiper48 and Sancti for getting back so quickly. I haven't posted enough to be able to send a pm to anyone but hope to be able to do so very soon. The same applies to the pm from Gailmail - I can't get back to you yet but will do so as soon as I am able. I hope we can get in touch via e-mail to talk about what we have.

For many years I have been researching Avondale/Strathaven family names and have accumulated a large data base. I am interested in exchanging and/or confirming information with others who are looking in the same area. Names include: Allison, Bryson, Cochran, Fleming, Hamilton, Jamieson, Leiper, Wilson and more; places include Carnduff, Meadowfoot, Collinhill, Hawkwood, Hookhead, Netherfield, Craig, Struther, Halls of Glengavel and others. I'd especially like more monumental inscription details if they're available.
