A small biography of him
2 caps v Wales he scored 4 goals in his Scottish debut on Sat 18 March 1893 at the Racecourse ground and another goal in his only other appearance for Scotland again at the Racecourse (Wrexham) v Wales.
One of the first players to go to Europe : to the Slavia club in Prague and was still coaching there in the 1930's.
Club Honours Dumbarton Scottish Cup Finalist 1887
Celtic League Champions 1893,1894,1896
Scottish Cup Winner 1892 (1st game only) Finalist 1893,1894
Centre Forward with much experience at Outside Right too. Neat and Clever in action and extremely dangerous when, by the early 1890's, an early inclination to indifferent finishing had been rectified. Not very big.

I would be interested to see any photos you have of him in football dress or in a team.

Moderator comment: similar offers merged - perhaps you can split the work?

Hi i am new to this site but have a couple of record books for Professional footballers for English and Scottish teams from 1888 - 1939.

The records can show dates/places of births, teams played for and appearances.

I would be willing to look up these records for anyone who knows of a relative having played for a top British team of those times.

I like the way they put their football tops over their school unifrom. That would have been very warm on a sunny day !

West Lothian (Linlithgowshire) / Re: Mossend Swifts Football Club

There were actually 3 football teams called Mossend Swifts.

The first team were around from 1879 - 1903. They were a SENIOR football team from West Calder in West Lothian, Scotland. Senior meaning that they were the same level as Rangers and Celtic of today. They played at a football ground called Mossend Park.

The second were a JUNIOR team around for one season in 1898-99. Junior football is the level below Senior football and is a semi professional level, nothing to do with age.

The last team of that name were around from 1932-34 and agin were a Senior team entering minor senior tournaments and played in the Edinburgh & district league.

I will try and search for some photos but am not hopeful.
