Pechio, that's brilliant! Love how you have made the skin tone more natural.

Thanks!!

Irene - thanks! This and the one you did earlier in the week will be printed and put on my wall - you are very talented!!

China, thanks for the info. That would pretty much confirm that it is my gggrandmother. Actually, we were wondering if it really was a photo or a painting. The large chain appears to have been painted on.

Thanks again to you both,
Simon

Hello again,

This is the companion picture of the photo of my Great Great Grandfather that you did a fantastic job with in this thread - http://www.rootschat.com/forum/index.php/topic,549944.0.html

I am not sure 100%, but the lady in this photo could be my Great Great Grandmother. She was born in 1860 and died in 1894, making her aged 34 when she died.

However, my Great Great Grandfather remarried the following year, so this could be his second wife (who was younger, born in 1868).

Any thoughts on a date?

And any attempts at restoration would, again, be much appreciated!!

Thanks,
Simon

...and thanks also to Carolyn (didn't see Page 2!!)

Thanks Irene! That's amazing work!!!  ;D

Kath, We figured he was about 30, but difficult to judge age in these photos.

Wiggy, I was wondering about the colouring. So would this have been a sepia photo that was hand-tinted at some later date or would they have tinted it at the time of taking the photo?

Thanks to Sylvia, Hippy and Wiggy -  these look great!!  :)

Any thoughts on a date?

Hello,

This is a photo of my Great Great Grandfather who lived from 1855 to 1911. Unfortunately the print is in a very poor state. It is about A4 size, on card, but the edges are damaged and I can't tell if the corners are round or square.

Any attempts at restoration or dating would be much appreciated!

Nick,
Good point about it possibly being a boy although I can't match the dates with anyone in that part of the family. I found the photo amongst photos of my Grandmother who was born in 1918 and I think it is most likely to be her.

The man in the photo is a mystery. It is certainly not my Grandmother's father. Maybe a Godfather - I'll have to try and find out who that was...

Would these have been Christening photos or would these type of clothes have been worn for any special occasion (or photo session)?

Irene,
Thanks for the restores. I thought the one with all the scribbling on it was past repair, but that was obviously underestimating the talents of the people on this board!!

Hello everyone,

Could anyone estimate a date for these 2 photos? It would help me to identify the little girl.

Thanks,
Simon
