Yes they were civilians. I believe that they were civilian workers in a camp of some kind in Kiel, Germany, I'm guessing that they had no choice in the matter.
They are listed in the Arolson archives at the end of the war but other than dob and former town there is no information.

Funny, I was going through my common ancestor hints today and found a few of the more distant matches showing a connection to known ancestors but when I look more closely they turn out to be people of the same name but seemingly unrelated, same christian name and year of birth but totally different surname or just random people who I can't really match to.
Since these are distant cousins I often think that I will never really know how these people connect at all.
Rather than using the groups I like to just add notes to matches, that way as I scroll down the list I can see immediately how people connect. With these spurious matches I tend to put question marks.

When viewing DNA matches trees in pedigree view, if I click on a name, a box pops up with that persons details. So far so good.

If I click on most names at the top (father's side) then under that person's name it usually says Smith family tree or whatever, which seems to make sense.
If I click on names at the bottom (mother's side) then it doesn't say anything in that place?

Now what's confusing me is that if the tree is large enough to include 2x grandparents and I click on one of those then underneath the name in the box it doesn't say Smith family tree etc, it says my surname instead?
It does this for all 8 gt gt grandparents on fathers side, even where I know the match personally and the person in the tree is not a blood relative, we connect on the mother's side only.

Is it just me or does anybody else see this?

I have been looking for burials of my Hogan family in the parish registers of St Peters Athlone but prior to 1840 at least there seems to be only two?
I know that they lived in the Drum area so would probably be buried at the old Drum cemetery.
Does anybody know if those burials would have been under a separate parish register to St Peters or if any other records still exist?

You are all amazing. I have been searching for so long and suddenly I'm overwhelmed.

This does fit in with my mother's story that Robert O'Connors wife died, possibly in childbirth.

I'm amazed at how far apart these children were born, I was hoping they were all somewhere near Athlone  and maybe that is why i haven't found them.

Thanks very much to all concerned and can I just ask one more question? Does anybody have any idea where Robert and Hannah married?
