Perthshire / Re: Burials in Kilmadock parish.

Many thanks Bleckie for this - unfortunately these Hutton's aren't my ancestors.  My Peter Hutton was a letter carrier or postman and railway messenger.  His and Janet's children's names were -
Peter: born: abt 1836 - Auchterarder
Elizabeth: b: abt 1838/9 - Auchterarder
William: b:1840/1 - Forgandenny, Perth
James: b:abt 1842- Auchterarder
Mary : b: 1845-Auchterarder
Margaret:b: 1849/50-Auchterarder
I got all this info off a family tree that's beens done on "The Doigs of Leven, Fife,Scotland.  I've been trying to contact the person who did that family tree - but haven't had any luck yet.

What I was wondering here was if anyone knew anything about the Auchterarder parish and burial ground.  I would love to find out exactly where Peter senior (born 1804 and died 1878 in Auchterarder) and Janet Hutton are buried.  And also see if it's possible to confirm their son James Hutton's exact birthdate through parish records.

But many thanks bleckie for trying to help - very much appreciated!

As a lot of people on this forum live abroad, i thought i could be of some assistance in tracking down headstones in Kilmadock Parish (Doune,Deanston area) and get some pictures to send .
There are 3 main graveyards in the Parish, Old Kilmadock,New Kilmadock and 1 at the rear of the Old church of Scotland in Doune itself.
If this can be of help to anyone contact me on this post or by personnel
message.

Hello, I'm in New Zealand and trying to track down the  Perthshire parish cemetery where my ancestors Peter Hutton and his wife Janet Hutton (nee Stewart) are buried.  I saw this hugely kind offer of Monks09 to check names in the Kilmadock parish for those of us overseas and would like to ask if anyone knows of the Auchterarder parish.  My gg grandfather Peter Hutton was born 30 March 1804 in Aucterarder, christened on 8 April 1804 and died 16 Dec 1878 in Auchterarder.

As well as trying to find where they are buried, I'm trying to find the parish records for Peter and Janet Hutton's whole family, most particularly the exact birth dates of his children.  Their children Peter, James and Mary (my g grandmother) came out to NZ in the 1860's I think.  We are trying to track down Jame's exact birthdate as he's buried here without a headstone (he never married) and I think he was born in 1842 but would like to confirm this to make sure the headstone my mother wants to put up for him is correct.

I would be most grateful if anyone could help me in anyway. Many thanks Rachel

Well thanks again Ev as with your info you've been able to make it possible for me to hopefully find the graves of my ancestors and put the jigsaw together.

Rachel :)

One other thing I meant to add was that my husband and I will be coming over to the UK in June to attend a wedding and I'm hoping to work in a trip to the appropriate places in Scotland (Auchterarder and Brackenridge, Lesmahagow) to hopefully find Peter and Janet Hutton's and Irvine and Helen Dent's gravesites and also if possible their parish churches or anything else of interest.  Rachel

I see my copy of the link to the Dent family info didn't work properly.  So in case you're interested John Dent who married my great grandmother Mary Hutton was born on 11 Dec 1835 in Lesmahagow, Lanark, Scotland and his parents were Irvine Dent and Helen Steel.  The Dents seem to come from Brackenridge, Lesmahagow, Lanarkshire, Scotland.  My mother says that John and Mary called their farm in South Otago, NZ "Brackenridge".

Hello Ev, thank you so so much for this link to my ancestors family tree.  I actually found this family tree site a few years ago but then lost all my info on it in the intervening years after marriage and children etc.  I'm so thrilled that you've sent it through to me, thank you!

My grandfather was George Jackson Dent, and only he and Catherine Dent had any children and thus descendents.  Irving was the only other one to marry but had no children.  He was a Gallipoli veteran and won a Military Medal for bravery.   Are you the person who can add names and other info to this tree? I would be happy to let you know all the names of spouses and children etc and birthdates etc if you would like that added to the tree.

There is quite substantial family tree information on John Dent's family on the familysearch.org site -

Are you related through the Doig or Stewart family?
Thank you so much once again, Rachel

Hi, Peter Jnr that came to NZ worked as a stone mason, and had carpentry or cabinet making skills, but not sure what else he did.

The Peter and James you found in the 1861 census can't be my ones I don't think as that James is too young for my ancestor.  I will be finding out more hopefully soon when I receive a death certficate I've ordered for my ancestor James Hutton.

Thanks again for sending me all this info.
