Thank you Hollander.
Yes, I have visited the site.
I expect it was demolished after WWII.

Huntingdonshire / Re: Help - John LEVIS

Dear All
Interested to see this old thread being resurrected!
Rachel LEVIS (b. 1851) is my GG Grandmother.
Still at a brick wall for the birth/baptism of John LEVIS (choose your own spelling...!) b. c. 1784.  The Stanion link is interesting, but also Leicestershire is close enough to be a strong possibility too.
John LAVESS married Rachel SOUTHWELL at Sawtry All Saints, I have traced the SOUTHWELL family back into the 1700s still in Sawtry.
Very interested in any LEVIS etc information.
Thanks to everyone for your past contributions on this thread, it definitely helped me to make progress!

Hi
I have a Morby line from Huntingdonshire, and the spellings vary all the time from Mawby to Morbey and even Morley, so I am not surprised to see all these variations, although it doesn't make it any easier to find them!

Would I be right in thinking that if a child was baptised within a few days of birth as was the common practice, then the mother would not have been at the baptism as she would not have been churched until forty days after the birth?
Any insights gratefully received.

Thank you, very much like the look of that one.  Richard's eldest son was called William, which doesn't prove anything, but is a pro rather than a con.  Will look further into all that.  Thanks for giving me the lead!

Thanks for looking, but I don't think the Netherbury one is him.  My Richard's wife Susannah died in 1813 in Tilshead, and he remarried, in 1841 he was in Bourton aged 65 (slightly underestimating his age there, took me ages to find him, but it is definitely him).  Perhaps the family were from further afield originally.  Many thanks for your time.

A newspaper article claims he was from Broadwindsor.  Also, he married Susannah Brown in 1789 in Broadwindsor.  I believe she was the daughter of James and Betty Brown and was baptised in Broadwindsor.  Of course, it is possible that he was born elsewhere and moved to Broadwindsor as a child.  He was well educated and later was a schoolmaster.
He died in 1845, "Yeoman", and was aged 77 (burial at Tilshead) or 78 (death certificate).
Many thanks for your time.

Wiltshire Lookup Requests / Re: Richard TUCKER burial Tilshead

Many thanks, that looks like the right one.  On the death certificate his age is 78, and his occupation is Yeoman.  There is information about the church pews in Tilshead on the internet which suggests that he was buried in a big chest tomb but I was unable to find it on visiting the churchyard, however, there was more than one in a bad state of repair.
Thanks for taking the trouble to reply, most helpful.
Merry Christmas!
Twywell.
