Offaly (Kings) / Re: shea - kellett

I see that this link is quite old but thought I'd give it a try anyway! I am also researching George Shea and Ann Kellett. Their daughter Susan, is my link, She came to Queensland and married. I was wondering if anyone has been able to trace back to the Irish origins yet? I keep hitting a brick wall but would love to find out where they came from originally. Any info would be gratefully received.

Westmeath / Re: Kearnan Family
« on: Friday 23 September 11 03:33 BST (UK)  »
Hi
Mary Kearnan was married to Henry Sydney Lynam (Harry) in 1887, though I am not sure where except that it was in Queensland. The Kearnan family lived in the Stanley River area which is around Woodford and Caboolture. Mary's parents came out to Australia in 1866 aboard the vessel "Young Australia". Michael was an army pensioner having served with the Connaught Rangers, an Irish regiment that served in the Crimea and the Indian Mutinees.
Mary Jane Kearnan was born in Clonmellon, Westmeath, Ireland in 1863 and died 9 July 1943 in Brisbane. She is buried in the Lutwyche Cemetery, Brisbane.
Hope this helps with your search

Kent / Re: Forbes/Royal Artillary

Have managed to track a bit more info down but would very much like any information on Ann Forbes (nee Walker) and where she came from as well as where James Staats originally came from in Scotland. I have him enlisting in the Royal Artillery in Negg, Kincardineshire when he was 18 putting his birthdate at 1795. Any information regarding the family in Scotland would be much appreciated. I am particularly interested in Arthur Rowley (his son) who came to Queensland. As I mentioned he is on the 1841 census and gone by the 1851 census. I would like to know when he came out to Australia. I have some info on his siblings and their marriages from the census. Which member are you connected through?
Thanks for your help

James is listed as residing at the Royal Artillery Barracks at the time of his death, as a Quarter Master Sergeant, so I am presuming from this that he was still in the army and not on the pension.
Do you think if I obtained his service records I would be able to trace birthplace and perhaps parents names or did they not keep such information in army records that early? I have very little knowledge of these records in the UK. WW1 and WW2 records here in Australia keep this info but of course that is 100 years further on than James when record keeping had improved!
Thanks

Thanks for that. I have actually managed to find a lot more info since I posted the query including James and Ann's marriage and the birth/baptism records for Arthur and his siblings. I would really like to know now when Arthur migrated to Australia, (which I have been very unsucessful at). I know he is missing by the 1851 census but he didn't marry until 1870 in Qld, Australia, so I have a few missing years. Would also like to know where James and Ann were born. The 1841 census only lists Scotland for James and Cerk, Ireland for Ann.
Appreciate your time in replying.

Westmeath / Kearnan Family
« on: Monday 28 June 10 06:28 BST (UK)  »
Hi, Looking for any information on the Kearnan family of Clonmellon, Westmeath County. Particularly Michael Kearnan, son of Matthew Kearnan and Margaret Gillick. Michael was born in Clonmellon in approx 1830 and married Mary Jane Evans in 1859. They emigrated to Australia in 1866 with their children Joseph, Mary and Isabella. He is listed as a pensioner on the birth certificate of another child who was born on the journey over but I have found an Australian reference that refers to him as Colour Sergeant Michael Kearnan. I am not sure what that refers to. He settled in the Stanley River region (Cabootlure, Queensland) and died there in 1882.
Any information would be appreciated.
Thanks
