Hi Chris

I'm stuck as well, but from the names you've given there may well be a connection to my family.  I have Duncan Blair x Christian McGlashan 1767 Strachur.  Their son (my 4 x g-grandfather) Peter Blair married Catherine McLean, 1800 Dunoon and Kilmun, and another son, Donald, married Catherine McGlashan 1814 Glassary.

Christian McGlashan was a tenant in Ardenslate (owned by Duncan Campbell) in 1800, and Catherine McGlashan was a servant to Duncan Campbell when she married.

Duncan and Christian's other children were Thomas, Dugald and Catherine - and possibly a Mary - all born Strachur.

The dates are all around the same time.

Said Peter above ended up in Greenock and the family seemed to more or less stay there, apart from my 2 x g-grandfather who was a Coastguard and ended up in Wales and then Devon.  I haven't yet come across anyone living in Beith  but you never know!

Hello ging63

I got here a while ago googling exactly the same thing.  I'm afraid the short answer to your question is - I don't know if there's any connection.  Her birth date is too late to be my Christian, but you would think there'd be a connection somewhere.

The only information I'm sure about is that Christian married Duncan Blair 26 Feb 1767 in Stralachan.  Son Peter (1775) and daughter Catherine (1799).  I did find other baptisms showing father Duncan but no mother and the dates would fit in with Peter and Catherine.  But I don't know if these are right.

The only births I've found for Christian, based on an assumed birth date taken from marriage of around 1747 +/- don't seem to fit, either because of either the date or the place of baptism.  So I'm afraid I'm stuck as well!

Sorry not to be of more help.

Cornwall Lookup Requests / Re: Robert WARREN Rector of Rame, Cornnwall

There's a William Warren who married Sarah Ryan in Sheviock 13 Feb 1790 (probably a bit later than you're looking for), a Robert Warren m. Martha Chubb in Sheviock 27 Mar 1721 and 4 other marriages for Robert Warrens bet. 1754 and 1801.  There still seem to be a few Warrens around in Sheviock, Rame and Maker in 1700s and early 1800s but it would take a bit of working out as to who belongs to who.  Have you tried the Cornwall opc site?  Or the CFHS would probably be able to help.

There is also a site - www.theshipslist.com - which you might find useful.  I think Cornwall Family History Society have some Cornish mariners' lists and would be able to carry out a search for you, but would charge a research fee of £10 per hour for non members.  You can request online at www.cornwallfhs.com or email first to check which records they hold.

You could try contacting The Courtney Libarary in Truro, who hold copies of old local newspapers (West Briton and Cornish Guardian).  Not sure which years they go up to or if they do look ups, but their website is -

www.royalcornwallmuseum.org.uk/courtney-library

They may be able to suggest other places that you can look.

The earliest Elizabeth Vivian on parish records is a baptism on 26 May 1662 in Camborne (Trelowarren is in Camborne) with father listed as John, if this is any help.

OK, thanks - I'd really appreciate that.  She's my 5 x great grandmother.  I've just had to rethink this part of my tree as I originally thought my 5 x g-grandparents were Duncan Blair and... Elizabeth Ferguson but some professional research has revealed that this probably isn't the case!

Hi
I've just come across these posts in my search for details of a Christian McGlasshan who I believe married Duncan Blair 26 Feb 1767.  She is shown as mother of Peter Blair on his marriage record to Catherine McLean on 23 Dec 1800 in Dunoon and Kilmun.  I wondered if there was any connection to your Christian?  I can only find one other child, Catherine, b. 1799 in 'Stralachlan'.  I'd be interested to know if you you have any information on them.
Thanks.
Lynne
