Staffordshire / Re: Alfred Edwin Jones, b. 1876
« on: Saturday 21 December 24 01:31 GMT (UK)  »
Thanks Sue.
Yes, I'm the son of Charles Jones, (1888) at Kew, Victoria, Aus.
Charles' father was Thomas Jones (1861) of Wolverhampton.
Thomas' brother was Alfred Jones, (1853) of Wolverhampton.

Alfred's children;
Albert Edward (1877)
Clara (1898)
Florence Eliz. (1888)
Gertrude (1895)
Joseph (1898)
Thomas (1882)
William (1878)

I'm not even sure that my 'Alfred Edwin Jones' even fits in to this family at all.
By the looks of it, it seems that my hunch can't be supported by the evidence.
Maybe I got carried away with someone's tree on Ancestry whom I though may have been related.
The trouble is, that at age 72 I'm the youngest of my line of Jones males, there is no family member alive now to shed any light on my dead relatives.

I've researched all of my Jones family back to Edward Jones, miner, of Holywell, N. Wales, (b.1800), married Margaret Williams (1797) also of Holywell. Son Robert Jones (b.1821) of Holywell, married
Emma Williams (b.1826) of Welshpool, Montgomeryshire, in 1847 at Liverpool.
Robert's family;
Elizabeth, b. 1848 at Walsall
May Ann, b. 1850 at Bilston
Alfred, b. 1853 at Wolverhampton
Thomas, b. 1861 at Wolverhampton (my grandfather)
The family lived at Blakenhall.

Alfred followed his father Robert and became a Bricklayer along with another worker and lived at Stephen's Gate, Wolverhampton, with a family of 7;
Albert Edward (1877)
Clara (1898)
Florence Eliz. (1888)
Gertrude (1895)
Joseph (1898)
Thomas (1882)
William (1878)

Thomas emigrated to Australia in 1884, followed by father Robert in 1885.

I came across 'Alfred Edwin' somewhere on Ancestry (?), and both the given names fitted as in my previous post, as opposed to Albert Edward, ..the true documented son of Alfred Jones snr.
I wondered if 'Alfred Edwin' was in fact illegitimate, born the year before Alfred Jones and Florence Stone married, ..and kept out of documentation, because of social stigma, etc. ..Why were these 2 given second names and not other children of the family, excepting for Florence Elizabeth ??

I guess if nothing further turns up then I have to concede to a wild goose chase, ..but that is probably what geanolgy can become quite often.
There are 50,183 results for Alfred Jones in the 1881 census ..  :-X

Ok, ..so I take it that Geaneanet is not to be taken seriously ??

Makes me wonder where the contributor got the information from in the first place ..

Staffordshire / Alfred Edwin Jones, b. 1876

Hello all  :)
I'm looking for information re; Alfred Edwin Jones, born in Wolverhampton, Jan,Feb, Mar. 1876.
Parents Alfred Jones (1853-1899), & Florence Stone (1856-1929), both of Wolverhampton, and married at St.Luke, Wolverhampton on 11 Feb, 1877.
I take it that Alfred Edwin was born out of wedlock, although his parents were soon to marry, I assume baby Alfred being named after Alfred Jones his father, and Edwin after Florence's father, Edwin Stone, who died in 1869.

I have Geneanet information and a birth registration, but scant other evidence for his birth, other than 6b, page 56, ..although an 1893 marriage to Roseannah Watkins records his parents as Alfred Jones and Florence Stone, born in Wolverhampton.
On the 1911 census, Alfred Edwin had changed his name to 'Alfred Stephen Jones', although I take this as an enumerator error.

Another son, Albert Edward was born to Alfred and Florence Jones in the last quarter 1877, at Wolverhampton. He does appear on the 1881 and 1891 census as being part of the Alfred Jones household, whereas Alfred Edwin does not. Albert married Fanny Haines in 1899.

I cannot find a 4 year old Alfred Edwin Jones in the 1881 census, although it would not be outside the realm of possibility that young Alfred may have been staying with relatives, or in Hospital, etc.

I guess what I need is further confirmation of Alfred Edwin's birth, and his whereabouts in 1881.

Have a happy Christmas everyone !!

Canada Lookup Request / Re: William Musson and the Blizzard
« on: Sunday 23 January 11 20:50 GMT (UK)  »
Thank you, Debbie
October 31, 1849, Parish Church of St. John, Hampstead, vol.3, p.178
I have the cert. image, no.418, p.209, Occupation: labourer.
Can you find any reference to William Musson being a Baker ? Also
there is a strong suspicion that he may have married previously, to an Eve _ _?
I agree about the baptism later in life, it is unusual though. I can't explain why he wasnt given as deceased in 1862 and 1869. I think there is something shady going on here.
Apparently son Howard Whiteman (Wightman) Musson was married to a Blanche Pooke in England on 10 Dec. 1873 prior to his Australian marriage to my Grandmother, Emily Jane Ord in 1907. - Whether this was bigamous or not is unclear at this time, but not impossible, given that Howard was a sailor, was supposed to have been shipwrecked, joined a Australian Masonic Lodge in1892, yet was not found on the Aus. Electoral Rolls until 1903. Nothing about this previous marriage is known by our family.

Hi Debbie,
yes, you've got my family,
I have only been able to find from FreeBMD indexes:
BIRTH:                            Joanna Rosella Musson
year of Reg:                   1852
Quater:                          Oct,Nov,Dec.
District:                           Hendon (1837 - 1947)
County:                          Middlesex
Vol.                                 3A
Page.                              80

Birth:                               Poynton Musson
year of Reg:                    1856
Quater:                           Oct,Nov,Dec.
District:                           Hampstead
County:                          Greater London, Middlesex.
Vol.                                 1A
Page.                              448

1881 England census:    Poynton Musson, age 24
                                       Jane Musson, age 50
It seems you have dates misprinted, perhaps ? although baptisms could be performed at any time.
Joanna Rosella Musson married Vorne William Rivers in last Qtr. of 1881, can't find her on census. I can't find the family in 1871 either, but Howard was in the Royal Navy at Spithead, Hampshire, aboard HMS. Minotaur.
He and Poynton turned up in Aus. around 1892.
Any opinions about the fate of William Musson would be most helpful, I am sorry if I offended anyone with my previous comments.

Hi Kay,
Yep, I think I did post somewhere about French Canada a while back, - it was a bit of a stab in the dark, dont know why I said that. I may have assumed that because the name Musson has French connotations, or it was something I heard in the past, I dont know.
He was on the English census of 1851, was  home at Hampstead for the birth of son Poynton Musson on Oct. 31 1856 (again I would asume this), but then dissappears. he is not on the 1861 British census. I wonder if there would be a newspaper report about the death somewhere??

Hi Nick
Please insert 'snowstorm' - I dont like using Americanisms if I can help it. I'm an Aussie, you see, hate the way the Queens English is misused.
