Durham / Re: Dinah Lowery married James Summerson
« on: Tuesday 14 December 21 16:11 GMT (UK)  »
I am interested in contacting anyone who has any anecdotal history of her and her granddaughter Olive Maud Pickering Summerson.

Years later and i am not much further forward on what happened to Olive after 1927 (although it looks like she gave birth to a son Robert M Eastwood in 1939 at Durham NW).
I now know her exact date of birth (6 Nov 1899).
That gives nothing in deaths on FreeBMD so it looks like she died before exact birthdays were given on deaths at least on FreeBMD. She also doesn't appear on the 1939 register under her birthday, which seems odd. She married in 1922 Fred Eastwood and had 3 children in Durham/Newcastle area. It looks like there was also a 4th child born in 1939 (see above).
I think i traced her husband Fred who is in Newcastle City Mental Hospital, Gosforth U.D. as a patient, married in 1939. So why isn't she showing up on register if she was still alive in 1939?
I have tracked lots of false leads on possible deaths and second marriages for Olive and have run out of options.
It is a puzzle. I was hoping a living relative would solve it.
I am pretty sure this is her husband Fred.

The same Fred in the mental hospital definitely died in 1st quarter 1970 in Newcastle.

How exciting.
Robert McArthur, the brother of William Mitchell McArthur is my great grandfather.
I think that makes us 3rd cousins

The Co. Down connection is also on my mother's side although they moved back to Glasgow (assuming planted people came form the lowland) in the late 1880s.

We should share McArthur trees. I am sure we have new info to share even if it is more recent history?

I have a fair amount on your W.M McArthur
but almost nothing on his 4(+?) children, just rough birth date info from census.
Sane for his wife Jeannie Ann Milne.

I had a DNA test (as my y chromosome is 'McArthur') if that helps. Nothing exciting and as expected.

Thanks both of you

was there anything more after your quote?
"The entry reads: June 24th, John McArthur in Guilkhorn had a son brought forth by his wife Ann Slessor, baptised 8 July last named Robert...."

I would also like to know more about Ann. She is my direct ancestor.

I see you have Cromie and Bell and co. Down in your bio.
Me too, via Harbisons of Co. Down.

According to People's ScotlandsPeople
the son Robert McArthur was christened on 8 July 1806 in New Deer.
I am curious as to where you found the birth date?

There used to be a McArthur tree on the clan website but it has disappeared.
The MacArthur Foundation founder is from this tree (he changed his name)

I haven't gone through every detail but this is the tree on family search.

https://www.familysearch.org/tree/pedigree/portrait/L7F8-BLY
I have doubts about the parents of John husband of Jean Anderson.
I don't know what the source is to his birth in a family in Calander, Perth but it is added by Jim McArthur who i think is the author if the family tree on mcarthur clan website.
if it is correct then his sibling Alexander probably married twice (there is a duplicate)
Let me know if you want the tree as a gedcom.

Hi Dawn,
yes we are a distant cousins.
Ralph Spooner and Mary Hunter were my 3rd great grandparents.
I don't have much on Mary Smith only her date of death in the disaster and nothing on her children or her parents.
In fact i have no children for Ralph from any of his 3 wives.
It would be good to get in touch to share info.
I got my info from Alan Hilton (who gave Mary Smith's first name as Margaret) and free on-line BC and Canadian websites.
I only have the passenger list from here
http://sea-viewdiving.com/shipwreck_info/empress_home/passengerlist/page17.htm
The only thing i have on your great grandparents George and Elizabeth Belshaw is from the 1901 and 1901 Census's which gives three children and their marriage (quarter only). Ralph isn't with his family on 1911 census which is explained by your info of him travelling to Canada in 1911.
Please get in touch firstly here swamianandprasad[at]yahoo.com

Thanks Sami.
No known relation. He isn't from NE England so any relationship will probably be distant.

Sami where did you access that 1911 census you gave. Is it behind a paywall.
Just wondering if i am missing a public source.

I found some of those Spooners on another 1911 Census on FamilySearch but it didn't have a photo so some of the details (years since emigration) were not included. So i was looking for the photo

Thanks again Sami.
I wish other provinces were as good at record's accessibility as BC.
I got lost today tracing the movements of another branch of my family through the streets of Vancouver.
Shame those Family Search Wills only go up to 1939. I found one of the above family on the index which i would like to look at.
