Essex Completed Lookup Requests / Re: My Essex Surname Interests

Hi Jag,

yes there is a connection.  These are my husband's ancestors.  Samuel Bearman married Sarah Clark 27 Aug 1799 at Bocking as CP said. There was a son James as well born 1814. Samuel was a tanner. William Bearman and Catherine Wade are our direct ancestors.  Samuel was born 1776 in Bocking, the youngest son (I think) of Jeremiah Bearman and Mary Yeldham.  Their eldest son Jeremiah also married a Mary and there may be some overlap of baptisms. How much info do you want?

Chum,

Mary Ann is a very common name - do you know if she were born in Halstead, that's where all my Cooper's came from.

Julie,

that was it as information goes - not very much I know.

I were going to make a guess I'd say that Simon and the older Thomas were contempory, maybe brothers, and that they moved to the parish some time after the birth of your Thomas.  One thing I did notice was that a Thomas Childs was a regular witness to marriages from about 1770 onwards, signing his name and writing out the entries - perhaps he was the parish clerk, yet the Thomas who married Mary Copsey couldn't write his own name! Perhaps a trawl through the IGI for Simon and Thomas Childs would point you towards another a parish? Its always worth a try.

Simon,
the info is from the essex record office, the parish registers and the non-conformist registers. perhaps the family moved away after the death of Evan Jones in 1780
