No, there is no fathers name - he has a family, but none of them know of his history.

Shropshire / MAIDEN Alfred Horace 1885/6 - 1916

I am researching a tenuous link between Alfred Horace Maiden and the Humphreys family of Madeley.
On the 1891 Census, Alfred is living in Aqueduct Road and in 1901 living in Fosters Road.

My family (the Humphreys') lived in Aqueduct Road from about 1899 onward.
Mary Elizabeth Humphreys (born c1889) had a child out of wedlock in about 1909. As was often the case in those days, the father was left off the birth certificate. However, the child was given a very unusual name - Alfred Maiden Humphreys.

Is anyone on the forum familiar with this family and know of any gossip or knowledge that could link Alfred Maiden to Mary Elizabeth Humphreys.

Many thanks,
Brian.

Interesting. I do sometimes go to London.

I think I'll continue with the BMD search for the moment (I can do that from home!), but I will remember your advice.

You've been very kind,

Regards,
Brian.

Thanks for the reply, but I don't believe so.
Albert was baptised in September 1904 and was probably therefore probably born in the August. Also, if he came back to Shropshire we would probably have known.

Very kind of you to reply.

Brian.

Many thanks, some good ideas there.

I have checked the CWGC website and it doesn't look like he was killed in the war.

I have started the laborious process of checking marriage indexes from 1925 onwards on 1837online.com and printing out those that bear his name - Albert Edward Humphreys - not too common. I guess I'll have to fill up the meter on 1837online and spend the tokens looking. I like your idea on the death indexes - lets hope he died after age 65! I did check 1984 onwards as those indexes are on a database and search easily, but no luck there.

Any one else have any other bright ideas?

many thanks,
Brian.

Hampshire & Isle of Wight / Finding family to young for census?

My Great Uncle was born in  1904 in Madeley, Shropshire. By 1924ish he is believed to have moved to Aldershot to joing the army. NOTHING more is known about him.

???Question: When family are too young to be on a census return, and too old to be alive, what is the best way to find out if/when they married/died, and if they left any family behind.

My usual approach is to be very cheeky and use the phone book, but that demands knowing what their name is, roughly where they live, and that they are still alive  ;D

Many thanks,
Brian.

All,

I am trying to trace Albert Edward Humphreys, born 1904 in Madeley, Shropshire.

I believe that Albert may have moved to Aldershot on joining the Army - possibly around 1924 ish - and thereafter disappeared from sight!!

I would appreciate anyone who mayhave a remote connection to get in touch.

Many thanks,

Brian.
