Hello Carole
It would be great to talk with you about your John Fitzhenry. I'm in contact with Helen from South Africa who is a direct descendant of your grand-dad's brother Peter. She has posted on this thread before so I'll let her know that you have posted here.
If you wish you can email me at fitz-henry@one-name.org

Best wishes
Jo

Have just joined rootschat and saw this thread . My grandad was John Fitzhenry born 1898 died in 1975 son of James Fitzhenry . We lived in Thatto Heath and knew my Uncle Tommy and heard about Peter and Patrick and think they were my grandads brothers. He had a sister called Margaret who sadly died aged 21years. We know he had a sister who never came to England from Wexford. Will share any information I can to help. Got photos of my grandad and some of Margaret ,a younger brother and their mother my great grandmother. Have got a cold today so bit blurry but will get some info together ready to respond

Dear Tamsin
Thank you for your very kind offer.
Do you have any Fitzhenrys or Fitzharrises over in the Templeludigan area? They may also be in the townland of Monamolin.
The family which I am looking for migrated the short distance from St Mullins and Ballyleigh.

Thank you
Jo Fitz-Henry

Dear Lisa
Do you have an email address for your cousin? There isn't a contact email on the revolutionwow website. I would very much like to correspond with her about the name cross-over with the Fitz(-)henrys.
Best wishes

South Africa / Re: James O'Gorman - Irish farmer in South Africa during 1st Boer War

Hi Caroline
I've charted out the Fitzhenry family which included Father James Fitzhenry. They came from the Templeudigan area, but the family is interred in the St Mullins graveyard on the Wexford/Carlow border.
Father James himself is buried in South Africa according to the gravestone commemorating him.
They link to the O'Gorman/Gorman family through a marriage between James Fitzhenry and Margaret Gorman.
Another O'Gorman married into the Prendergast family of Graiguenamanagh, Co Kilkenny and the three famlies were corresponding from Ireland to South Africa during the 1880s.
See here for my blog posting about the family gravestones here:

Dear Lisa

There is the following on the Commonwealth War Graves Commission site:

In Memory of
Serjeant JOSEPH FITZHENRY

13005993, Pioneer Corps
who died age 42
on 12 June 1946
Son of Joseph and Elizabeth Sarah Fitzhenry, of Barnsley.
Remembered with honour
BARNSLEY CEMETERY

I initially thought that this meant that Elizabeth was Joseph's mother. However, I can now see from your information that Elizabeth was his step-mother, as Priscilla would have died when Joseph was only 4 years old.

The 1901 census gives Joseph senior's birthplace as Wigan, and his birth was registered in Wigan in the first quarter of 1882. I have more information about this particular Fitzhenry family in Wigan if you wish to contact me.
