Durham / DOBSONs at Ryton, Gateshead
« on: Friday 24 October 08 14:21 BST (UK)  »
I am particularly interested in Thomas DOBSON who married Frances STRONG in 1781 Stella, Winlaton. I would love to know when he was born ? 1756 and who his parents were. I am wondering if there was a Hugh DOBSON who could have been his father. I found a Moses DOBSON who had a child named Hugh. I am interested in Moses' parents. Moses married Catherine Bainbridge in 1733. Any help with Thomas DOBSON's heritage would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,

Hi,
I would very much appreciate birth info on Robert OSWALD before 1800. He married Elizabeth Patterson in 1824 at Penshaw & 4 children Robt, Wm, Ralph & Ann were bapt there.
Is there any other OSWALD parish info at Penshaw prior to 1800.

Thanks,
Genie

Cheshire Lookup Requests / Re: Odd-Rode - SIMMS
« on: Tuesday 14 October 08 00:35 BST (UK)  »
Thank you so much. I have not been on this site for quite a while, so I did not see your post.
I had found Sarah SIMMS birth record on Family search but not James or John. After sending away for Sarah's birth cert, it said the mother Elizabeth's maiden name was BOSWELL. On 1841 or 1851 census James SIMMs was with SIMMS grandparents and on another census he was with BOSWELL grandparents. Both grandparents were canal boatpeople. Elizabeth BOSWELL was born at Talke. I still haven't found her marriage to William SIMMS but I suppose they could have married anywhere their canal boat travelled. Where would I look for census records for Newton. Apparently a son David was born there after Sarah?

Edward Hollis married Elizabeth Dixon abt 1849. In 1851 they were living on New St. They had one child at that time - Maria. By 1861 they were living at Fenwick Place, Lambeth. I cannot identify Edward Hollis on the 1841 census. He was supposed to be a ship steward. Elizabeth Dixon was with her Dixon family in 1841. Edward Hollis was the son of Thomas Hollis who was a bricklayer.

Hi,
I am hoping to find a birth record of a Thomas HOLLIS c 1783 Edmonton.

This info was on the 1851 census, when Thomas was living in Blackheath, Lewisham.
I am also hoping to find his marriage to Mary c 1805 - 1813, perhaps somewhere in Middlesex. Thomas HOLLIS was a bricklayer.

Thank you,

Berkshire / John WOODLEY - North Moreton - birth?
« on: Wednesday 15 February 06 12:21 GMT (UK)  »
Hi,
John WOODLEY married Frances BUTCHER at North Moreton in 1803. I have been stumped about John WOODLEY's birth record, as there are many John WOODLEYs from Berkshire on the IGI born about 1780.

His children were as follows:

Sarah 1804 North Moreton
Wm 1806 Chelsea
Ann 1808 Chelsea
James George 1810 Chelsea
Frances Chelsea
Louisa Chelsea
John 1817 Chelsea

If I were to look for clues from the names of his children perhaps relating to his parents, would one think that a Sarah might have been John's mother and a William might have been John's father?
I know that Frances' parents were Frances DEANE & Lawrence BUTCHER, so they were not the Sarah & Wm.

I do not know the villages in proximity to North Moreton, so I don't know the likely village that John WOODLEY may have sprung from. He may have been a shoemaker.

Would the marriage record say whether John was from a different parish?

I would appreciate any suggestions about how to find the parents of John WOODLEY.

Thank you,

I am seeking a birth record of Edward HOLLIS born abt 1818 Knightsbridge or a marriage record of his father - Thomas HOLLIS - bricklayer (from Edward's marriage cert)
Edward was listed as a ship steward in 1849.

Suggestions where to search would be most appreciated.

Thanks,
