The Common Room / Re: looking for birth mother

Best wishes in your search. I finally got a picture of my mother when I was 60. Be expectant that anyone you trace may not be best pleased to establish contact.
After establishing whether your mother got remarried or changed her name try using 192.com to trace her. You may have to pay a fee. If you do find a possible contact don't go at it like a bull at a gate. Think about how you will establish physical/ telephone contact. I actually confirmed my mother by finding that she had several children after me , and one was on facebook and was a clone. Everybody who saw the photo of my step brother was convinced that they were looking at me. Both parent were dead by the time I traced them but they had left loads of DNA around. I've now found 9 half brothers/sisters of which only 2 wish to keep in contact. Expect the worst and enjoy the best.
Also I found that my father had been a serial bigamist . The grandmother had been a servant at a large house and had run off with the coach driver. Are you able to acccept that any news that you get will not affect you. Personally , I was amused by all the history that I discovered.

Ive been stuck for some months now. Then had an inspiration ( A what if moment). What if instead of the occupation the info on the certificate was a name. And one transcription error suddenly made sense and Ive now shot through what appeared to be a complete blockage. And as confirmation one of the early census returns allowed me to confirm the error. Brilliant. Tailor was written down when the name should have been Taylor ( I thought that I had already noted that he was a soldier)

Onwards and Upwards

That would make things difficult for the child in the future ?

Looking at gro index for birth cert dated around 1946 , I see a few examples including one that may be of interest to me where a certificate is issued showing mother and fathers name , the sex of the child and place date etc but no first name.
Is this possibly a death after birth or a child being put up for adoption ? Or just a cock up on the part of the indexers?
