Hi,
If it helps at all I have Mavors in the distant past in my family tree - my GG Grandmother Mary Syme married John Mavor in 1893 in Cupar.  Mary had 1 son who was 1 when she married John - & there's nothing to indicate that he is the biological father - so I don't have any direct blood relationship to the Mavor family.

From what I can see Johns parents were George Mavor & Margaret Black who married in 1894 in Kinghorn.

Not sure if that helps to add to your research!

Hi Norrie G,
I wonder if you would mind having a look & letting me know if you have a head stone from Dysart Cemetery for :

John Mavor (b 1/8/1870, d 8/10/1936) & his wife
Mary Mavor (nee Syme) (b 25/4/1867, d 4/10/1931)

I know they are both buried there & have the lair reference but haven't been able to find it - not even sure if there is a stone or not.
Many thanks in advance.

Fife / SYME - Cupar
« on: Sunday 28 March 10 18:17 BST (UK)  »
Hi there,
Can anyone help please?
I'm looking for some help with the Syme line.
I have the following:

Thomas Syme (1824 - 1894) & janet Jeffrey who had the following children:
Catherine Syme 1857 - 1861
Robert Syme 1859 - 1863
William Syme 1860 - 1860
John syme 1861 - ?
Isabella Baird Syme 1863 - 1863
Charles Syme 1865 -
Mary Syme 1867 - 1931
David Chalmers Syme 1868 - ?

I think most of the children that died in infancy died and are buried somewhere in Cupar.
Any help or info would be gratefully received........

I have Thomas Symes parents (above) as Thomas Syme(1808? - 1879) & Christina / Catherine Wilson & his parents as Charles Syme(1783) and Margaret Duncanson and Charles parents as James Syme and Helen Sibbald.

Again any assistance or added info would be great

I also have Mary Syme above (1867) Marrying John Mavor Mason but seems to be known as John Mavor.  I know that Mary had 1 son - Thomas Syme (1892) but I'm struggling to find more info on the Mavors / Masons.

Many thanks in advance.

Hi there,
I have Balfours in Fife in the family too - I haven't managed to get far at all on that line at the moment though so I don't know if our Balfours are connected or not.

I have George Balfour married to Ann Cummings who had a son Robert Balfour  in 1864 who was born I think in Lower Largo - is there a connection there?

Kind regards

All of these people are my relatives too!  Could I trouble you to private mail me the medal info etc about James too please?

Andrew Henderson - son of William and Jessie Gordon is my Great Great Grandfather.
2 out of 3 of his sons were born in Burntisland and all lived there too - if you would like any more info on that strand let me know and I'll private mail you too!

Many thanks in advance.
