Staffordshire / Re: Seven Houses Wolverhampton
« on: Wednesday 18 July 12 22:24 BST (UK)  »
The best I can do, I'm afraid.
About halfway down the page.

http://www.genuki.org.uk/big/eng/STS/Wolverhampton/index.html

I have to confess I have never heard of the area before.
Reading the location distances.

Goldthorn Hill, one and a half miles S, is a high district of scattered houses, extending into the parishes of Sedgley and Penn. The large reservoir of the new Water Works were constructed here in 1850-1.

Seven Houses, half a mile S, is an increasing suburb, with many new houses.

I think Seven houses may be called Blakenhall today.

Sorry I can't help with your question.
There is a Davis family in Wombourne

I don't know if they are yours. Might be worth an email.

World War Two / New book 6th Heavy Anti Aircraft Regiment RA
« on: Tuesday 13 March 12 20:04 GMT (UK)  »
This book may be of interest if you are researching relatives who served in the

http://www.bookdepository.co.uk/6th-Heavy-Anti-Aircraft-Regiment-Royal-Artillery-Patrick-Walker/9780956219046

The only connection I have to the book is through my late mother who as a young girl lived on Penn Common near to where the regiment was stationed for a time during the war. The author asked if she could remember anything about that time.

The book does contain a long list of soldier's names who served with the regiment, their medals and honours. Also a Roll of Honour for those who did not survive.

They do seem a very unlucky regiment, I expect it was the same for most at that time.

I hope this helps someone.

I should say other Royal Artillery books are available. (I don't think there are any on the 6th HAA though)

Edit to make link work

Well done Willow.
Only seven more to find.

Come on folks, don't let history be a mystery.

If enough people are interested, I can contact Wolves Archives, who will arrange a guided tour behing the scenes at the archives: my group had a tour last year, which was very interesting. I had vague plans of turning this into a full day and hiring one of the meeting rooms to do a bit of tutoring as well, but the room hire would be £60 - £80.

Cati,
I would be interested in a visit to Wolves Archive.
If there is not enough people for a behind the scenes tour, can we muster enough interest for a
"Dummies" guide to the Archive visit? Please.

As for the days tutoring I would be happy to help make this idea a reality.

I have a couple of projects I need help with  ;D

I phoned the farmer the day you originally posted, he is going to find the photos for me, he has been really busy. I will visit him tomorrow and report back.

Hello Irene,
I only have a little info from the Shotton/Marson side of the family. I will ask if there are any Dillhorne photos, this will take a day or two, you know what farmers are like!

I should really give you all a little update.
Thanks entirely to the help from the chatters here, I did contact a family who live at Mow Top farm, they were a little shocked when I phoned them up, but very nice and polite. Unfortunately they did not know any thing about the previous occupants.
The uncanny thing is they are agricultural contractors, which is exactly the same as the farmer on whose behalf I am searching. Gave him quite a turn when I told him, so I have been waiting for him to show some interest before proceeding any further. I should think he has recovered by now, so will ask about the photos.

Hi Cati,
I just happen to have it with me (*so it's not in Penn Library at the moment!! - it's in Chez Cati)....

'Mapping The Past - Wolverhampton  1577-1986' Mary Mills 1993 pub Metropolitan Borough of Wolverhampton Library and Information Services Division 1993

Very interesting.
Talk about dangling a carrot. I will see if my contact at Penn Library can pull a few strings.
May be a good find though.
Thanks
Rich
