Francis and Mary (Merrill) had seven children. Ellen born Barnsley March 1871 14, Eldon Terrace. As mentioned I have found a registration as Annie Barnsley Reg June Qtr. 1871 with death of Annie Hegginbotham Ecclesall Bierlow registry March Qtr. 1876 age 4. Alfred Born Stoney Middleton 18 March 1873 married Florence Cocker Bakewell Reg. March Qtr. 1902 daughter Laura born 28 December 1903 married Joseph E. Needham son Mervyn D Needham. Alfred died 14 March 1908 age 34 following a knee injury which went wrong possibly causing TB. Florence is buried with Alfred in Stoney Middleton Cemetery. Frank born Stoney Middleton 10 May 1877 married Margaret Emma Palfreyman Bakewell Reg December Qtr 1905. Children Cecil John born 28 June 1906 married Ellen Morton; Alfred born Bakewell Reg December Qtr 1904 married Winifred Ethel Davis Bakewell Reg 1939. No children. Alfred died 1st October 1941 age 33 Killed on the Railway at Rowsley/Darley Dale trapped between buffers while shunting during Blackout Buried together Stoney Middleton Cemetery. Frank died 17 May 1962 age 85 Buried Stoney Middleton Cemetery with wife Maggie. Ethel born Ecclesall Bierlow 10 January 1880 married James William Hallam Sheffield Registry March Qtr. 1901. Children Robert Cyril born Stoney Middleton 1902 Bakewell Reg June Qtr. 1902 died Stoney Middleton 1902 Bakewell Reg Sept. Qtr 1902; Annie born Stoney Middleton 26 May 1903 married George Barnsley. Ethel died Stoney Middleton 1st June 1950 age 70 Buried Stoney Middleton Cemetery with husband Jim. Cyril born Ecclesall Bierlow 26 September 1885 married Temperance Swindell Hall Bakewell Reg December Qtr. 1911 daughter Gladys Merrill Heginbotham born Chesterfield Registry December Qtr 1912. Cyril died Sheffield Reg December Qtr 1916 age 31. Temperance remarried. Mary Merrill Heginbotham born Stoney Middleton 26 August 1889 known as Mollie married Samuel Furniss Bakewell Reg June Qtr 1916 five children. Mollie died 30 July 1971 age 81. Buried Gt. Longstone cemetery with husband Sam; Gladys born Stoney Middleton 13 October 1891 married Joseph Hallam Chapel-en-le-Frith 26 October 1918 son Joseph  born Thorpe Audlin 18 February 1921 died Bangor, Gwynedd 27 April 2012, three children. Gladys died Llangefni, Anglesey 18 February 1966. Gladys and Joseph both cremated and ashes interred Maeshyfryd Cemetery, Holyhead, Anglesey. With regard to Ellen, I know the 1911 census says they had six children but the 1871 census clearly says she is a daughter. Maybe they just forgot about her after all that time? After all she didn't live very long.The others can all be tracked through the other censuses. With regard to Hannah Wibberly, I can't find the original info but I have a note on Matthew 1794 to say that she married Matthew Heginbotham born Hartington 1803, Bakewell 1827. It can hardly be Matthew 1794 as it clearly says on the gravestone that he died in 1818!

I've just come across your message and am also descended from Joseph and Ann (Hills). The surname has countless spellings over the years, even within one family. Ours settled on Heginbotham in the mid 1800s. My great-great-grandparents were Henry Heginbotham and Hannah Hancock. Their son, Francis (Joseph's younger brother) married Mary Merrill and their daughter, Gladys, was my grandmother. She married Joseph Hallam from Curbar. They had only one child, Joseph, my father, who sadly passed away last April. I am currently updating my notes for some of my Dad's cousins so if you want any more info let me know. I, like you, have the gravestone and worked down from there and I also have projected tree for ancestors of Joseph born Cheshire but am not entirely convinced that they are the right parents. Just a feeling.
