Lancashire / WAGSTAFF family of St. Helens
« on: Tuesday 25 May 10 10:10 BST (UK)  »
hi,

i am looking for the Wagstaff family of Windle or Dentons Green of St.Helens

I have two children born to William and Mary Wagstaff -

Rachael Wagstaff baptised 1st May 1814 and her brother
Thomas Wagstaff baptised 10th September 1815

I have found a burial for a William Wagstaff of Windle in 1825 when aged 43
which would put his year of birth about 1782

but i am unable to find a marriage for William and Mary and a baptism for William

Thomas Wagstaff married Ellen Atherton 10th April 1837 and
Rachael married William Baxter 12th September 1836.

I have a photo of Rachael in her 80's

Anyone related to this Wagstaff family ?, or can find the missing marriage or baptism.

thanks
Al.

hi mshrmh,

Thank you for finding the family in the 1851 census.
Richard does not appear to have made it thru to 1871,
there are several possible deaths of a Richard Entwistle in Manchester in the 1850's

hi mshrmh,

yes please, i have a list of the children and the marriage -:

Joseph Entwistle married Alice Booth   3/1848  Manchester Cathedral

Joseph Entwistle      baptized 27/ 9/1829   Warrington
Alice Booth           ~  1829               Manchester

Children of Joseph Entwistle and Alice Booth

George Entwistle                  3/1853   Salford/Manchester
John Entwistle                      3/1856   Salford/Manchester
Elizabeth Ann Entwistle        3/1860   Manchester
Joseph Entwistle                 12/1862   Manchester
Sarah Ellen Entwistle          12/1868   Manchester

so Joseph & Alice were married by 1851, and in 1861 they should have been in Manchester
according to the children's birthplace. Joseph may have worked on the river, so he could
have been moving around.

i see there is a death of a Mary E. Birtwhistle aged 23 in June qrt. 1906
in Stockport registration district, possibly the newly married wife of Austin.

There is this marriage

Austin Birtwhistle March qtr 1906 Glossop 7b 1120

to either Mary Emily Griffiths or Mary Elizabeth Mellor

Hi, i don't have a subscription to the 1911 census, but just on a search, the other male party in the marriage list is
a George William Casey, and in the 1911 search results there is a George William Casey living with a
Mary Elizabeth in the Ashton-under-Lyne registration district.
So it would appear that Austin Birtwhistle married Mary Emily Griffiths in 1906.

Al
