Hi Christine,

I really do appreciate all your help with this. I have found Elizabeth Lisle in the 1861 census as being widowed with two small children: James and Agnes ( my maternal ancestor), still living in Main Street. Like yourself I can find no record of them in the 1851 census: I have tried all kind of spellings to no avail. Goodness knows how they were transcribed! If I ever find it I will let you know. It is really uncanny that she may have been Elizabeth Wilson as that is my maiden name. Those Wilsons came from Manchester though so I don't have to worry about being inbred! Anyway thanks again for everything.

I am so grateful to you Christine. My great great grandmother was married after all: I just have to find her maiden name now to continue. Do you live in the north east? My grandmother met my grandfather in Durham whilst they were both in service and moved to Newport, South Wales where my grandfather was born to get married. I now live in Buckingham but would dearly like to visit Ancroft sometime to see where my ancestors lived. Thank you once again for all your help.

Thanks for that Christine. I think you may be right about the presbyterian bit. Do you have anything on my Great great grandmother Elizabeth Lisle also born in Ancroft in 1830. She has the same name as my great grandmother and had another child James Lisle born in Ancroft 1854. It looks like she had these children out of wedlock.

MY great grandmother was Agnes Lisle born in Ancroft 1856. She married a John Burnett in December 1875 in Gateshead. has anyone got any further information?
