Europe / German Ancestor's Birth
« on: Wednesday 25 October 06 03:37 BST (UK)  »
I have a copy of a page from a German ancestor's Bible stating that a Daniel Schafer was born on 10 August, 1832 in Frankenau.  Could someone please help me go in the right direction to see if I can obtain any records of him in Germany?

Thank you,

Thanks for all your help Chris!  My cousin will be visiting England this summer and she has booked a tour guided trip to the cemetery in Belgium.

Jane, Chris & Annie - Many thanks for your replies and the copy of the index card.  I will try the World War I site and maybe they can help me with the regiments museum address.  I will also download the card for my family tree records.  Once again thank you all.

Hello - I have found my Uncle, Raymond Frederick Smith on the War Memorial Site. I now need to find out if there is anymore information I can get on his service record.  I have his Rifleman's # and he was in the 18th Bn., King's Royal Rifle Corps.  He died October 1918 and was buried in Lijssenthoek Military Cemetery and a very kind soul sent me a picture of his grave.  I live in the States but do manage to get home about once a year and I was wondering if I could go to the regimental museum and be able to find any information?  He was 20 when killed, so do not know what age he was drafted or joined up.

Thanks,
Meryl

I have a marriage certificate between William Clack and Eliza Mahew dated Jan 1842.  I would very much appreciate it if someone could help me with these two families.  In 1861 William & Eliza are living at 174 Eastfield St. Limehouse,Stepney.  Are they there in 1851?  Before they were married they should be with their parents (William Clack and James Mahew.   William was born in Hackney, abt 1820 and Eliza was born in Leyton,Essex abt 1821.  Their marriage took place in Islington and their address was Balls Pond Road.

Thanks for any help you can give me.

Yes, we lived in Stanhope Gardens, it backed onto the Arena.  Used to go stock car racing and my Dad saw the greyhounds.

Hi Zelley,

I did not live in your area growing up, was down the road at Harringay but I used to visit  my grandfather in Stepney and Mum always took me on the bus.  I can remember passing Holloway Prison and thinking what a ominous looking place!!
