William was in the Royal Navy and I have his Naval record with his date of birth. I work in Civil Registration and was able to obtain his birth certificate. He was married twice. On his second marriage, he stated that his father was George Hegarty, so definitely confirming this information. He is not on the 1901 and 1911 census in Ireland, he was in the UK on active duty. I did find him on the 1911 census in the UK. Here is the link of his family in Ireland in 1911: http://www.census.nationalarchives.ie/pages/1911/Cork/Cork_No__4_Urban__part_of_/Roches_Buildings/388815/

Cork / WILLIAM HEGARTY - need help
« on: Sunday 06 May 12 20:46 BST (UK)  »
I've been trying to do the Hegarty side of my family tree for a long time, but a lot of the time in vain. I stop abruptly at my great-grandfather's birth certificate.

He was William Hegarty DOB 07/01/1879 to single parents, Father George Noble and Mother Catherine Hegarty. For the Father's name to be on the birth certificate at that time was quite unusual. He never assumed his father's surname.

I would love to find out about Catherine Hegarty. It has been past down to me that the Hegarty's were from Whitechurch. A lot of Hegarty's are from this area. On his marriage certificate he stated that his father's name was William Hegarty, which I am presuming that his Grandfather was William Hegarty. As of yet, I am only finding one family with the name grandfather's name William Hegarty and the area is Killavallig or Killavarrig, Carrig na bhFear, Whitechurch. How could I prove that this family and my family are the same. I found a Catherine Hegarty married a William Burke circa 1883 - I'm awaiting this marriage record. What other records could I try?

Anyone with clues that could help me please.

I've a lot of information already put together, but I would always be welcome to more. Eddie, you've put me in the right direction for aot of the info, but I think I will need to head to Dungarvan and chase up on another bit.

Thanks Vasaborg,

I've just been onto the County Libraries website that you recommended to me.  Wow!  It's like a hidden gem.  Still need to find out where he's from though.  At least i've a timeframe to search around 1811!

Thank you so much

Regards

I've found exactly what I needed.  Can't believe it has been so easy.  I've been going around in circles.

Waterford / Patrick LANDERS Shop Keeper
« on: Friday 26 February 10 18:39 GMT (UK)  »
I have recently found out that a Patrick LANDERS is related in my family tree.  He owned a shop in Dungarvan in Devonshire Square, now known as Grattan Square.  When Patrick died, the shop/pub was left to my great grand aunt Margaret LANDERS who was single.  The pub was then left to my grand uncle Michael LANDERS until he sold the pub.  I'm wondering how can I relate Patrick into my family tree.  I have seached all birth and baptismal records to no success so far.  Any ideas?  The smallest piece of info might help my research.

Thanks   ???

I have recently found out that some of my relatives are from England, London in particular.  John Joseph LANDERS and Ivy Maud MICHEL had one daughter,

-------------- LANDERS on 19/10/1932.  She married Harry WOOF on 06/03/1957 in Registry Office, Kensington and I'm wondering if they had any children.  I have since found out that Harry has died in 2003 aged 96.  Any info and I would be delighted.

Also Harry Woof married before this marriage to a BORTHWICK.  I can only find one daughter a ---------- in 1944.  How could I find out if she married?

I'm living in Ireland. :)

Thanks, I think I need to plan a trip to Dungarvan to really have the resources to find info.  There isn't too much on the internet.

Regards

Anne :)
