World War Two / ATS Medals

My mother served in the ATS from 1939 until 1944 including from 1942 in Egypt stationed in Alexandria. I sent for her medals as she did not claim them. I received the Defence Medal and the War Medal. Should she have been awarded the Africa Star as well?

Sorry everlea, my mistake Thomas was born in 1815. Thomas's occupation was Cabinet Maker. His wife was Elizabeth. Henry joined the army in 1851 he was a corporal in the crimea. They had him back in the army after he finished his sentance.

Many thanks for that information Everlea. I was under impresion that the offences were carried out at Thomas Bishop's house. I would like any information that you could find out about Thomas Bishop if possible please. Where did he carry out trade from/live etc?

Wiltshire / Bishop - Chippenham

On 6th March 1854 my 2nd great Grandfather Henry Bishop was sentenced to 3 months imprisonment at Wiltshire Assizes for two counts of theft from dwelling house. the offences were committed at the house of Thomas Bishop ,his uncle, in Chippenham.
At the time of the offences Henry was a soldier in the 47th regiment of foot. He had joined the army in 1851 having previously been an apprentice to his uncle Thomas Bishop a cabinet maker. Thomas Bishop was born in 1851 at Calne.
Any information about the crimes and/or information about Thomas Bishop would be appreciated.

I have added a second submarine to this picture, not very well I might add, it does not apper authentic as it is a picture of a submarine on the surface and the forward Hydroplane is folded up. The hydroplane is the squarish shaped object on the side of the submarine near the bow and when dived should stick out horizontally as in the larger submarine.

Armed Forces / Re: Which one in the Photo is the Drum Major?
« on: Wednesday 30 November 11 14:01 GMT (UK)  »
Thanks for your comments Ken.

The first photograph was published in the Book 'The loyal North Lancashire Regiment 1855-1970' published in 2002. the caption reads NCO's of the 47th in Canada c 1866. I appreciate that corporals are NCO's. It was the family resemblance to one in the photo that prompted my original post.

I only obtained the second photograph yesterday.  I think it was taken following his promotion to Sgt Major in the 1st (City of Bristol) Volunteer Battalion, The Gloucestershire Regiment in 1878, which he joined as a Sgt Instructor of Musketry on being pensioned from the 47th in 1873.

I do have his service record and he does not have the Canadian GSM. He had the Crimea with Sevastopol Clasp, Turkish Crimea Medal and LSGC medal
