Hi Captain Sailor, great to hear from you on this long forgotten about thread, sorry I haven’t responded sooner, since my first post I have gathered some more information and it certainly looks like the same Dunlop connection although I must confess in recent years I have not carried out any further research, I have also visited and photographed the Dunlop grave of which aghadowey has provided a transcription.

Hi whiteout7, the Hugh Harkin whose will you refer to was my Grandfather and Olive is his eldest Daughter, I also photographed the Dickson grave you have mentioned but am unsure of the exact connection although I can confirm from the photograph that the year of Mary Dickson's death is indeed 1928.

Maybe 2016 is the year my interest in my family tree will be re-ignited!

Only just seen you posting from 2010 .....

My Great Grandfather was Patrick Porter, who married Catherine Craynor from Carnamoyle. They lived in Kilderry and had a son, James and daughter Rebecca.
Is that of any help?

Hi RebeccaB, I believe that is the same Porter connection! Patrick and Catherine's son James is my Great Grandfather, I think as soon as you make 3 posts you can send/receive PM's so hopefully you can get in touch and we can compare notes :)

Hi derrylass and Aghadowey thanks for the additional information, it's been a while since I've looked at my tree but these are new leads and will most likely spark my interest again :)

Hi thanks for the reply, this is the same info the RAOGK Volunteer sent me and it appears to have just recently been added to the findagrave.com site so I presume it was them who added it.

My G Grandfather Thomas Harkin/Harkins was a Butler and emigrated to NY in 1903 with the intention of bringing my G Grandmother and their children over at a later date but unfortunately died before he could do so, he died on 24th June 1906 and was buried on the 26th

I have got a copy of his death cert and have managed to locate were he is buried:

The Green-Wood Cemetery
500 25th Street
Brooklyn, NY 11232

Grave 335, Lot 30010, Section 135

I believe he is buried with his Sister and her Husband (Ellen & Hugh Nesbitt) who died in 1900/1899

This is a bit of a long shot but I am hoping there is someone in the area with a bit of spare time that could visit the grave to check if there is is a headstone, and if so then take a photo and email it to me.

I visited NY in 2007 but unfortunately this was before I realised my G Grandfather was buried there!

Donegal / Williams/Williamson Ramelton Donegal

My G G Grandfather was Samuel Williams/Williamson (Some records I have found show the name as Williams others show it as Williamson, eg on his death cert his name is Williams and it gives the informants name as Ellen Brogan, Daughter, but on Ellen's Birth and marriage record to John Brogan it lists her name as Williamson!)

He died on 7th July 1918 in Derry and from the cemetery records I have established that he was from Ramelton and his Parents were Matthew & Catherine Williams (Possibly Williamson!)

He married Margaret McDaid although I cannot find a marriage record I have been able to establish fom the cemetery records that Margaret was from Derryhassan and her parents were Hugh and Margaret McDaid. The first record of a child I could find was Ellenor Williamson born 21 June 1875 so I would assume they were married before that.

Samuel is showing as 52 in the 1901 Census, 54 in the 1911 census and 60 on his death cert in 1918 so probably born sometime between late 1840s and late 1850s.

I have found a baptism record for a Samuel Williams son of Matthew Williams and Catherine Gardiner, 10 Dec 1843 at Ramelton 1st Presbyterian but i am unsure if this if the correct person as the date seems a bit early.

I have also found a Presbyterian church marriage record of a Matthew Williams from Kilmacrennan to a Rachel Wilheron from Ramelton on the 14th June 1826, but the wifes name does not match, if this is the same Matthew maybe he remarried later?

I am unsure of the religion of Samuels parents but I do know that Samuel and his family are listed as catholic in the 1901 & 1911 census.

Finally I have just receieved the following death certs but although it seems likely I cannot be sure if this is Samuel's parents:

Katherine Williamson, 7 March 1881, Big Ards, Age 72, Married, Wife of Labourer
Informant: Rebecca Williamson, Daughter, Big Ards

Mathew Williamson, 4 April 1886, Big Ards, Age 75, Widower, Labourer
Informant: Susan McDaid, Daughter, Big Ards

(Big Ards appears to be fairly close to Ramelton)

Sorry for the long winded message but I tried to include as much detail as possible to see in it rings any bells with fellow researchers! if anyone has any information on this Williams/Williamson line or is connected to them I would love to hear from you!

Ireland / Re: 1901/11 irish census - Ages not right

Hi
thanks so much for your reply
In relation to my quote  "its just that records i have are not the right ones that all."
A friend done a look up for me in carlow bagnalstown in parish records
in relation to ellen dwyer and patrick dwyer and the info I received from them was that

Patrick Dwyer died in Ballymoon (carlow) 21st Nov 1906 aged 81 years
and his wife Ellen died 10th June 1906 aged 73 years

yet the census of 1901 have them as follows with their daughter (Ellen Dwyer her details are correct)
http://www.census.nationalarchives.ie/pages/1901/Carlow/Bagenalstown_Rural/Kilcarrig__part_of_rural_/1038590/

The age is so far out with the father Patrick Dwyer

Many thanks
genseacher

I have quite a few similar examples in my tree with age discrepancies of up to 10 years and more, one other point to remember is that when an elderly person died especially if their husband/wife had passed away before them it is unlikely that the next of kin registering the death knew exactly what age they were and probably made a 'best guess'
