Hertfordshire Lookup Requests / Re: Stephen V. Harrison Obituary Lookup Request
« on: Wednesday 27 February 13 17:16 GMT (UK)  »
I've just got Stephens Death Certificate and he died at home in Potters Bar on 02/04/2006, if that helps pin down the obituary notice to a local newspaper.  Looks like the home was sold a couple of years after his death so his wife Doreen has obviously moved on.  Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Dave

Hertfordshire Lookup Requests / Stephen V. Harrison Obituary Lookup Request
« on: Monday 18 February 13 13:32 GMT (UK)  »
Hi

I wonder if someone could help me with a lookup for an obituary for Stephen Vernon Harrison whose death was registered in Hatfield in April 2006. I've tried looking it up online but the online obits seem to start in 2009 and being based in Yorkshire its a bit of a trek! His wife should be called Doreen (who is an aunt of my wife) and I'm particularly interested if any chilren/spouses/grandchildren are listed.

Thanks in advance

The Evan Fraser Hospital was located to the west of Sutton village.  Sutton didn't become part of Hull until the late 1920's so the records may not be in Hull.  Try the contact Carol gave if they don't have the information they may know who has.  You could also try the Hull History Centre.

Hope this helps

Bendywendy is right. Chariot Street, or what's left of it, is still there linking Paragon Street and Carr Lane. But it's at the western end of the City Hall, not the Maritime Museum.  It's only a few yards long now.  Before WW2 it continued North West under what is now Queens House.  The Hull Cheese used to called the Paragon Inn and was certainly there (or its predessor was) when Aaron was in the area

I've had a quick look at the Hull History Centre catalogue http://lib3.adir.hull.ac.uk/dserve/search.htm and searched for Chariot Street.  This turned up a few hits, mainly the deeds and similar things, nothing for No.19.  There are some photographs dated 1941 and 1942 so I guess they are of the damage during the blitz.

I also searched on Aaron Baker. That turned up something interesting.  In document ref C TCC/6/3, Admissions to Hull Charterhouse - Aarons name is listed followed by "(letter of thanks)".  As you know Aaron and Hannah were listed in the 1871 census as living at the Charterhouse so I wonder if that is a letter written by Aaron at the time they moved there.  Intriguing isn't it!  Depending on the time you've got when you visit Hull it might be worth popping into the History Centre and having a look at that document and perhaps some of the others.  If you contact them in advance (24 hours) they can have the documents ready for you.

Hi Peter

Is it possible that Aaron Baker, the one born in 1793, had another marriage between Mary and Hannah?  the IGI has a marriage between an Aaron Baker and Jane Gilson at Holy Trinity Church in Hull on 12/12/1821. Each census between 1841 and 1871 show only one Aaron Baker listed in Hull.  Do you have the census info?  The 1841 census lists one of his daughters as Sussana, born in Hull in 1826.  Perhaps he named his 1st born daughter after his mother?

Europe / Re: Cecil Jacques Bond - Belgium

Hi Jorose

Thank you so much for the information.  Just what I was looking for.  I think I've also found his fathers death in 1966.  Frederick probably did serve in WW1.  I've found part of his service record.  He joined up in 1909, aged 17, for 4 years and reenlisted in 1913 for a further year. I can't find anything later than that but so many of the WW1 record were destroyed in the blitz in WW2. The regiment he was in did see service in belgium so I think you're right, he met Nellie in Belguim.

Many thanks once again

Europe / Cecil Jacques Bond - Belgium
« on: Thursday 23 June 11 23:07 BST (UK)  »
I'm trying to find the relatives of Cecil Jacques Bond who was an RAF Air Gunner, killed aged 19 in 1942 when his Stirling bomber crashed in Devon when returning from a mission.  The local villagers near the crash site have recently put up a permanent memorial to the crew and I think it's important that if Cecil has any relatives then they need to be told.  My uncle was one of Cecil's crew mates.

The only information I've got is that he is buried in Bournemouth (I have a photo of the gravestone) and he was the son of Frederick Roberts Bond, and of Nelly Bertha Bond (nee Overtus), of Bournemouth.

I have recently found out from his RAF service record that he was born in Ecaussinnes-D'Enghien, Belgium on 19/01/1923.

How would I go about finding out if he had any relations still in Belgium?

TIA

Dave
