Family should be living in St Helens, probably Eccleston, and i am interested in Sarah's husband, as she was a Widow in 1881.

Could i possibly have a look up in the 1891 and 1901 Census please for an Edward Seddon Prescott as the head of the Family, living in St Helens.   I don't know his birth year, but think he was married in 1889, wife i think Rachael Alice, and children Thomas, Robert, Rachael, and Mary [ maybe more].
Many thanks,
   Curley. :)

Hi Digger,  Certainly i have no problems sending you the MC for your records.
I certainly would not dismiss the Henry James record, as i think it has a good chance of being  the son of HC/MC, and is one of the possibilities i was referring to in the last post.
The birth details are good etc, and i have found the name succession in families to be a reliable 'clue' to connections, and we have his daughter as a Mary Ann, with also Henry James being the christian names of Mary Ann and James Hickson's son b 1871.
Unfortunately my Ancestry membership finished before i linked this into my searches, and i am no longer able to look up the census records.
Personally i think Mary Canvan and Henry split after the children, either through Death or just Separation, possibly back to Ireland, as there is a very high possibility he was Irish born.
The Campbell connection at her Marriage is still one of the unknowns !
Cheers.  Curley :)

Hi Digger,
Sorry but i am a little confused now, with your statement at the end about Mary Ann and James Hickson possibly going to Ireland to get married, or not getting married at all ?
I confirm again, that the details i sent were those on the Marriage Cert' for J H' and Mary Ann, and that is the family which Mary Canvan was living with in 1881 at Barnton!
In turn i may have confused you with my remark about Sarah Anne as a child in the Hickson family, by saying ' that is another story'.   I certainly did not mean that the Campbell marriage was a 'red herring', rather i meant, treat it separately for the time being.
I do think it is important because it adds weight to a link with Mary Canvan.
On the birth certificate you have for Mary Ann Canvan in 1839, what are the details given for her Father Henry [ i assume he is Irish too]?
In my search for the Canvan's i found a couple of 'possibilities' which matched Mary, but with the large number of options, you need all the information you can get to start with.
I also know from years of searching Certificates, and even my Parents details on their Marriage Cert', that people will say many untruths for all kinds of reasons, which can throw you off the trail.
Cheers, Curley :)

Hi Digger,
You have your hands full with this one i can tell you, and am not sure which line you are chasing, but it gets deeper later on.
I have the Marriage Cert' for Mary Ann and James Hickson which was on the 3rd of September 1960 at Liverpool Parish Church, and confirms CaroleW's post.
James Hickson. Full age. Batch'. Flatman. Res'.Cable St. Father John Hickson. Flatman.
Mary Ann Campbell. 'Minor'. Spinster. No Occ' given. Res. Cable St. Father. James Campbell. Porter.  Witness's. Ann. H. Jones. and Joseph Fernandez.
As you can see she is listed as a Minor, which if your Birth Date of the 2./2.1839 is the correct one this would not be the case, but you may have a cert' which suggests the Cert' is wrongly stated.
I have previously requested searches on this subject from the kind people on the site, and as they found [ and separately i did], there are unfortunately many options that 'could' fit the names.
In regard to the children of James H' and Mary Ann, as Carole said the 1861 Census shows no children, but subsequent ones do show a Sarah Anne as being born approx' 1959, which is what you 'may' be referring to.   However her marriage in 1881,gave her Father as again, a James Campbell. Ship Builder, which could indicate that Mary Ann had been previously married, or had her out of wedlock.   I have not got to the bottom of this one either, but that's another story!
Curley. :)

Essex Completed Lookup Requests / Re: 1871 Lookup Please
« on: Friday 26 November 10 01:26 GMT (UK)  »
Many thanks to you KGarrad for your extended Lookup.
It's pretty certain that i should send off for Certificates to Nail this one, but by way of courtesy i should briefly explain the background.
Henry John South was the Grandfather of a recently deceased connection here in Australia, and the family have his DOB [ passed down over years], as the 11th of April 1864, and they say without a Cert', that he was born in Barking, where the family lived for many, many, years, at 26 Perth Road.    I looked in 1881 by Address, and couldn't bring it up, so i assumed it wasn't built then, but with the BMD record for JuneQ 1864, it seemed that this was him [ although i didn't check for a death], as you found.
His marriage to Emily Sarah Starke, on the 13 th of October 1889 at St Olave, i have confirmed, as well as children born 1891, etc, etc [ also Reg' at St Olave].
The only other H J S i could find in 1881 with dates fit,  was in Hertfordshire, but he stayed there.
The wife of the above Grandson is 89, and naturally some memories can be a little distorted, although the Address is confirmed, but with later years.
A Marriage Certificate seems to be the best bet, as in the case of the Birth, i cannot confirm 100 % where it was.
With sincere thanks again to you and Mort29 for your help.
   Curley. :)
