The Constables lived in nearby Halsham until the 17th century but their residence is no longer visible. It was in a field about 70 yards to the north of the church.  Close by the site there is the family mausoleum but this is a later building (1800) and was not there when they resided in Halsham.  The mausoleum is still in use by the family.

Technical Help / Re: web page unavailable
« on: Wednesday 10 February 10 18:47 GMT (UK)  »
It is annoying, it happens to me and it didn't until recently.
Click on search results on the page rather than the back button.
If you then want to modify the search click on modify search.

I also find that I cannot choose which facility if I want - for example if I click on Census it won't give me the option of just census I have to search the lot.

Merionethshire / Re: Help with address on 1841 Census
« on: Friday 05 February 10 20:23 GMT (UK)  »
From the census it would appear that the address is in the township of Rhydyrhin which was in the parish of Llanegrin, very close to the sea and just above the river Dyssynny.
It doesn't appear to be still there but if you look at Google Earth you can ruins of what appears to be houses around that area.
You can see them just to the left of the station labelled Tonfanau

There is also a bit about the township on genuki

Hope this helps.

The records that exist are in the Hull History centre - this may help

http://www.nationalarchives.gov.uk/hospitalrecords/details.asp?id=453&page=31&hospit=

The workhouse closed in 1929 when it became a hospital. In 1948 it became Kingston General Hospital in the new NHS. It was demolished in 2002.

I worked there between 1966 and 2000 as part of my job.

Thank you Carole I did have some of this information but I thankyou anyway What I am hoping to find is actual records of the workhouse

Hi

I have been reading through all the info on cemeteries and am wondering if anyone knows anything about the 6 Jewish cemeteries in Hull and whether records are available.

I am not in the UK and cannot get to Hull physically, but maybe there is some online access :D

Many thanks
Sara

Hi Sara

There are 6 Jewish cemeteries in Hull - information can be found at
http://www.jewishgen.org/jcr-uk/Community/HullSixJewishCemeteries.htm

They are all locked but a key can be obtained to visit them - further info here
http://iajgs.org/cemetery/england-other-than-london/hull-yorkshire.html

I don't know about the Jewish ones but all persons buried in Hull cemeteries can be traced through the cemetery records held in the new History Centre in Hull.
