Berwickshire / FAIRBAIRN, Alice May
« on: Monday 04 November 24 16:29 GMT (UK)  »
I am trying to confirm that Alice May Fairbairn, dau of William Fairbairn and Ruth Johnston, born 16 Jan 1890, emigrated to America in 1929 and died there, possibly in Washington State, as her brother Laing Johnston Fairbairn also went to the States and died in 1955 in Pierce county Washington State.
When she left, she was a matron in a nursing home, and would have thought she would have continued in that line of employment

Berwickshire / William Forsyth GIBSON

I am trying to trace William Forsyth Gibson born 27 July 1881 in Coldingham to David Gibson and Mary Forsyth, who wer married on 31 January 1877 also in Coldingham.
I have William F Gibson on the 1891 Census, living with his Grandfather Anderson Gibson born 1819, his parents and Anderson Jnr, Julia L, and Margaret, at Bail Strand Farm cottages, Duns rod Berwick upon Tweed.
David and May were at Hilton Cottages Whitsome in 1901 with Anderson Jnr and Margaret.
in 1911 David and Margaret are at 21 South Street Duns, with Mary Forsyth Gibson a granddaughter age 9
I believe William Forsyth Gibson must have emigrated but cannot find any trace of his movements, although in 1922 there is a William Gibson arriving in New York on "Cedric", and a William F Gibson Census in Ingram County in Michigan age 48, birth year 1882.
I wonder??

Warwickshire / Re: BLACKs in Stratford on Avon

Getting back to this string, Dorothy Mary Evelyn TAME, is the daughter in law to Grace Somerville Black, nee Sanderson, (1863 to 1957)and  was married in 1936 to David George Black, born around August 1905 at Wellesbourn in Warwickshire. I have him on both 1911 and 1921 census, but not on 1939 register.
Why?  He died on 22 June 1963 at West Bromwich, so where was he in 1939. Have tried several variations of surname, but no luck.

Hi Resjes
Your Robert Gibson is a brother of my 2x Gr Grandfather, William Gibson born in 1821 and farmed with his brother Anderson a farm on the Coldingham area of Berwickshire called "Burnhall" in the 1861 and 1871 census

In Coldingham Priory Churchyard there is an obelisk to David Gibson and Isabella Renton with a number of their children's names also on the stone.

There is a branch of the Gibson's who farm in Alberta, north of Edmonton, they are descended from Anderson Gibson, 1856 to 1940, who was the son of Anderson Gibson 1818 to 1892. He emigrated with his family in 1907 onboard M.V. Sicilian from Glasgow. he died in Saskatchewan on 1st Dec 1940.
Any other details, please let me know, as  I have just picked this thread up after a time away from Rootschat.

Agreed there is no connection to Kelso. I picked up a birth of a James Robson who was registered in Kelso by mistake dated 1846, thinking he was the James I was researching. My error, now corrected.
Still to locate a birth/baptism for him, as you have pointed out.
Rest of your info very helpful and attending Library edition of Ancestry.
