I forgot to mention, but James Good (William's father) was married to a Mary Killingback before Sarah Rudkin. I believe the Killingbacks have been researched quite a lot, as that is how I traced William's Parents!

Thank you Serena, but I can't help feeling that whilst we all help each other giving so much assistance in your first postings is taking it a bit far!

Much appreciated, and I hope I can return the favour for you sometime.

That's okay :) I'm only a beginner at this game but I've spent a lot of online time trying to trace people!

Suffolk / GOOD family Bures St Mary, 1700s and 1800ss
« on: Wednesday 27 January 10 23:27 GMT (UK)  »
I am having trouble finding the records of several ancestors from Bures St Mary.

Joseph Good: Born in Bures St Mary in 1827, lived elsewhere from 1841 onwards, mother named Susan (maiden name unknown), father believed to be William Good (died 1840, Bures St Mary). It is his birth record I can't find.

Susan [unknown]: Born in Shimpling in 1801, resided as a widow and head of household at Smallbridge Farm, Bures St Mary in 1841, believed to have been married to William Good (died 1840, Bures St Mary), had 3 children: William Walter (1826), Joseph (1827) and George (1834). I can't find a marriage record, or birth record (without a surname).

William Good: Father, James Good (1740-1810), mother, Sarah Rudkin (1762), assumed to have lived on Smallbridge Farm, Bures St Mary, married Susan, had three children as above. I need marriage and birth details for him.

ANY help would be MUCH appreciated!

I just realised that this might be better off in the Essex forum after all! Please move it if you think so :)

Serena, welcome to Rootschat and please forgive me for asking you a question rather than helping with yours.
I was interested in your comment about 'the Hungarian archives' and wondered how you found them?
My husband's great grandmother and her sister were both born in Hungary of an English father and a French mother, and all their records in later life gave their birthplace as Hungary but described as 'British Subject'.
I just wondered what archives you had contacted - like you, I have a dead end on this one so far
Again - apologies for asking rather than assisting

The archives are the National Archives of Hungary and you can email them on info@mol.gov.hu

Also, they gave me a link to search for names in Budapest but it is in Hungarian! Link is: http://lear3.bparchiv.hu/kozponti/simplesearch.html

I hope that helps a bit :)

Suffolk / Amelia GREEN m. Joseph GOOD 1851
« on: Wednesday 27 January 10 22:45 GMT (UK)  »
Hi

I am looking for ANY details on an Amelia Green from Suffolk. I don't have any idea of her birth date, just that she married Joseph Good (1827-1894) in 1851. The Marriage Index says the marriage was registered in Lexden, Essex in Q4 1851.

She is named as the mother of my ancestor, Mary Amelia Adelaide Good, on her birth certificate in 1852, and had two other children in 1854 and 1856. She is not on the 1861 census with the rest of the family, so I believe she had died by then (or maybe a divorce?).

The Good family are all from Bures St Mary, Suffolk, so I figured she would be from the area, but their residence was Colchester, Essex in 1961, and Mary was born in Great Horkesley.

Can anyone help?

Europe / Tracing a family in Hungary - STAMPFER
« on: Wednesday 27 January 10 22:30 GMT (UK)  »
Hi

I was going to start a new thread, but saw this one so I hope you don't mind me hijacking it!

I have come to a complete full stop regarding my Hungarian ancestor. I only know his name, his father's name, his approximate year of birth (from census info) and that he was from Hungary and Jewish!

He was my great great grandfather, Sigismund/Sigismond Stampfer, born about 1844. His father's name was Moritz Stampfer. He married Mary Amelia Adelaide Good in Southwark on 4th April 1874. That is the first record of him being in England that I can find. Obviously, I have plenty of information on his subsequent time in this country.

Unfortunately, my grandfather, the only person who may have helped, died a few years ago. I have some idea that he  was from Budapest but that isn't definite. My grandfather did used to say that he came to England to flee pegrums, but that doesn't really narrow it down.

The Hungarian Archives have told me I can't do any kind of search without knowing an exact date of birth and place of birth! I don't want to come to a dead end, as I am really interested to find this information out.

I hope someone can help.
