Staffordshire Lookup Requests / Holy Trinity, Hope, Marriage Look up 1911
« on: Friday 28 February 20 20:41 GMT (UK)  »
Am looking for further information of a marriage between John Henry Lucas and Maria Wilcox who married at Holy Trinity, Hope, STS in the 2nd qtr of 1911.  Unfortunately I couldn't find anything on findmypast or ancestry and wondered if anyone had access to the parish records for this church?

I know, they're not on findmypast either :(   Thank you anyway!

Ah sorry Yorkshirerose. It did cross my mind that you may have entered the additions.

The registers don't seem to be amongst the West Yorks non-conformist on Ancestry, nor the non-conformist registers on The Genealogist or Family Search. How frustrating.

Sorry not to be able to help.

Yes, thank you I have seen this entry and I added the other family members to the findagrave site.  It is actually the burial date I am seeking as I don't have the registers for that particular burial ground myself.

He is actually on the 'Find a Grave' website. If you have access to Ancestry you can go to that site via Ancestry. Maybe you have already seen this as it doesn't give a date for the burial, which is what you requested.

Someone has added other family members, but they seem to be buried in the cemetery at Knottingley as opposed to the Churchyard.

Martha 1900?
Mary Jane Taylor Tate 1908
Brian Tate - mystery - says aged 39 in cemetery register, but that differs from a birth and death year entered by someone.

Apologies for the delayed response.  That's the right one.  I don't know why she states she's a spinster.  I can only presume it was either because she'd been widowed for several years or abandoned by her husband and didn't want her new husband to know!  Daughter Maria Holmes puts step father (Henry Houlden) as her father on her marriage record so Lawrence Holmes was well and truly erased from Sarah & Maria's lives.

I'm looking for the date of burial for Richard Tate, died 3 Dec 1863 and also his wife, died 10 Sep 1900, if anyone has access to those burial registers please?  TIA.

For years I've been trying to hunt down my 4 x great grandfather, Lawrence Holmes who married Maria Cliff(e) at St Giles, Pontefract 24 May 1826.  Their daughter, Sarah, was baptised 24 Feb 1827 at St Botolph, Knottingley with Lawrence recorded as a Labourer.  There just doesn't seem to be any further information about Lawrence and what became of him.  His wife Maria remarried in 1833 in Brotherton and Sarah gave her stepfather's name as parent on her marriage certificate, so I presume Lawrence either died or left his wife some time between 1826 and 1833.

Apart from the marriage and baptism record, I've found nothing else and unfortunately I have no idea when or where he was born, however there was a Lawrence Holmes who died in 1825 in Ferrybridge that may have a connection, but I've struggled to find much out about him too.

Perhaps I've become blinkered and can't see outside the box on this one?

Oh thank you so much, that's brilliant.  I'll have a closer look.  And thank you also for pointing out the new GRO index with MMN - that is soooooooooooooooooooooo helpful :-D

From Walsall Advertiser - 4 November 1899

"On 29th ult. Samuel Wilkes, 61 Ford Street, aged 36 years."

Thank you for taking the time to look. It is specifically their son, Samuel's baptism and/or burial record I am looking for.  Abraham Wilkes married Elizabeth Dunn on 4 Jul 1858 at St Johns, Wednesbury.  I have baptism records for most of their other children apart from Samuel and his brother John.

Thank you.  I've found some of his siblings baptised at St James, Wednesbury, but not Samuel so far.  His parents were Abraham and Elizabeth.  Abraham was a Shingler by trade.  Samuel's wife moves up to Yorkshire by 1900 with her children, where she remarries, so it is looking very likely the Dec. Qtr. 1899 record will be the right one.  Samuel has been recorded on census records with birth year est. 1866 and the 1891 census shows him as James Wilkes!  Marriage certificate gives his age as 20, in 1884.
