Scotland / Re: Is anyone researching Scottish Cobbs?
« on: Thursday 06 May 21 00:41 BST (UK)  »
Hello,

I have recently done some research on the Cobbs of Dundee and Brechin, some of whom are buried in the small Cemetery at Old Mains, Dundee, near where I live. Its been fascinating - and I found a court case where a 'cousin german' challenged the will of the very rich David Cobb, writer 1812-1892. He and his relatives are here at my website http://genesontheweb.co.uk/g17/p17568.htm

Hello!

This is to let you know about a Facebook group that I’ve started where people who probably relate to each other (and me!) can meet and chat. This first group of folk that I’m contacting relate to Conways and Fishers in Ayrshire and Ireland.

You'll find more about my folk at www.genesontheweb.co.uk
You’ll find the group at https://www.facebook.com/groups/GenesOnTheWeb/

I do hope you’ll come along and see who else is there.

Best regards
Pat Carson

Partoon was a well-known photographer in Dundee early in the 20th century. Here is an example of his work - The lady is playing the title role in the opera Nadeshda for Dundee Operatic Society in 1924.

I don't think we have the same family, but my gg-grandma was Janet Stirling (Sterling) from Letham (Dunnichen) Forfarshire.
You will find her and her family at my website http://www.genesontheweb.co.uk/p22.htm
And all the family here http://www.genesontheweb.co.uk/ui57.htm#a0

Hope this helps.  :)  :)

Hi Paul,

I'm interested in your Paterson family. Where are they mainly found? I have Paterson folk who are in Angus.

Lanarkshire / Re: Unknown names in grave

Is this a lair (grave) record - ie ONE grave? If it is, I would expect to eventually find some relationship. But I've had experience of a widow who sold her lair to another family - totally unconnected - before she left Scotland for South Africa!

For what its worth, the death record for Eliz Monaghen states she is married to Samuel Monaghen, coal miner; and her maiden surname is Wilson.

Lanarkshire / Re: can someone do a lookup for me?

You'll get that here www.scotlandspeople.gov.uk - Pay-per-view - very reasonably priced.
Personal visits to the GROS is £15 per day + downloads or prints.
The Mitchell seems to be much the same cost.
