I am trying, without any luck really, to find more info on a Stephen Bailey - cannot find his birth or death, just his marriage.  I have been told that he may have died in 1838 - have checked the Fordingbridge burial records at the parish church of St. Mary's there but nothing.

Here I what I know:  Stephen Bailey born say 1795-1810 in Fordingbridge/Frogham area of Hampshire.  Stephen married on 25 December 1824 to Rebecca Gilbert (bapt. Fordingham 15 April 1804). Witnesses were James Bailey and Stephen Early from the village.  Rebecca had a sister called Elizabeth. Parents of Rebecca, Nathaniel Gilbert and Anna ?)   Anyway, I know for sure that the following were the children of Stephen and Rebecca Bailey:

Jane Bapt. 2 Oct. 1825 Fordingbridge
Mary Ann Bapt 29 May 1829
Henry James Bapt 27 April 1828
Henry James Bapt 9 Sept 1832
Nathanial Bapt 18 March 1835
Johannah (Hannah Bapt 26 Feb. 1837)
Jeremiah Bapt 28 April 1839
Possibly Stephen's children but not sure when he died or they could be the children of Rebecca's 2nd husband after Stephen died:   Jonas
                                                   Lucy
                                                   Elizabeth

Sadly, Stephen never appeared on the 1841 census.

Possibilities is that Stephen was transported to Australia/Tasmania (have checked but could not see anything), maybe is was abroad serving in navy or army or he died somewhere else in Hampshire.

Any info you can find on him would be wonderful.

Many thanks

London and Middlesex / Drowned River Thames 26 November 1863 - Thomas John Davis
« on: Friday 28 March 14 10:30 GMT (UK)  »
Hi Everyone

I wonder if some kind person can do a newspaper search on the death of:

Thomas Davis (middle name John but may not have been used)
Born 1829 in either Arlington or Allington Wiltshire.

On 7 April 1851, Thomas married a Sarah Diggle at St. Margaret's Church in Westminster. The next time we see them in on the 1851 census living at Artillery Row in the Eccl Parish of St. Stephen but civil parish of St. John The Evangalist. Thomas is shown as a messenger. Not sure of the circumstances but Thomas is found drowned in the River Thams by the Chelsea New Bridge. Has anyone got access to the local newspapers to see if the was an announcement as to what happened or indeed if there was a record of the inquest etc.

Many thanks

Hi

Many thanks for your reply, letting me know that there was a report in the Scotsman about the trial in Stirling Spring Court on Francis Platen Denovan.  Would you be able to send me a copy of this report please or if not, give me a link or website where I may be able to see it.

Kent / Need More Info on Army Records & Death of Edwin William Beazley
« on: Tuesday 18 March 14 09:59 GMT (UK)  »
Hello

I am hoping that someone can help me find the death record of Edwin William Beazley. All I know is that he was born in Liverpool, Lancashire (shown on 1891 census, surname Beasley) in 1863. He joined the army and was a Corporal in the Royal Engineers (sorry don't know what regiment).  He married Alice Westhorpe Bruce on the 29 June 1890 at St. Mary Magdalene Church in Gillingham Kent. Edwin and Alice can be seen still living in Gillingham, Kent at 56 Wood Street on the 1891 census, and his occupation is Corporal Royal Engineers.  I do know that his wife went on to marry another man called John Sydney James Stroud but whether it was after the death or possible divorce from Edwin, I do not know.  They emigrated to New Zealand in 1911.

So, it is the death of Edwin William Beazley that I cannot find and wondered if he was killed in WWI ?

Many thanks

Occupation Interests / Licensed Victuallers - Application London Pub
« on: Friday 14 March 14 10:47 GMT (UK)  »
Hi

I am trying to find the birth details of a Thomas Grainger, who ran The Chamberlain Pub in 12 Noble Street in London from say 1835 until 1844 when he died there.  I thought maybe he would have to put his birth details on his application form to be a licensee?  Where do I look to see his application or can anyone suggest where else I may look.  The only details I have on him is from his Death Certificate which says he died on 14 November 1844 at the pub and he was aged just 43. His wife Elizabeth nee Burkett born 1805 in Cottenham, Cambridge was also name as Victualler on the 1841 census living at the pub with their 4 children. I cannot find where he is in 1841.

Many thanks for any help.

London and Middlesex / Birth Look Up For Licensee Thomas Grainger
« on: Friday 14 March 14 10:40 GMT (UK)  »
Hi

I have been looking for ages for the birth/baptism of a Thomas Grainger. His Death Certificate says he died 24 November 1844 at where he worked, the pub called The Chamberlain Arms, 12 Noble Street, London, aged just 43, so puts his year of birth at 1801.  He married an Elizabeth Burkett (Born 1805 in Cottenham,Cambridge) on 11 September 1826 at St. Luke's Church, Old Street, London.  I believe his children were also christened there - Elizabeth Grainger Born 1829, Thomas Grainger Born 1838 ,Hannah Grainger Born 1832 and William Grainger in 1840. I can't seem to find him on the 1841 census (checked Old Bailey records and nothing on him in prison etc.).  Not sure how to find him in a local hospital?  His wife Elizabeth and their children are on the 1841 census living at the pub in Noble Street, naming her also as Victualler.  I do not know the names of Thomas's parents. I thought maybe his gravestone may hold some clues but I have read that the gravestones have long gone from St. Lukes.
Can anyone help me with this please?

Many thanks

Norfolk / Help With Family Living in Blofield, Norfolk
« on: Thursday 27 February 14 09:29 GMT (UK)  »
Hi

I am wondering if someone can help me find out more details on this family?

Sidney George Patterson was 1909 in Blofield, Norfolk and on 25 July 1934, he married at the registry office in Blofield, Norfolk, Susan Wilhelmina Rooney O'Neill Born 1913 in Ireland.
I have found the parents of Sidney, they are:
George Albert Patterson Born 1885 died 1956 and Laura Ellen Dingle Born 1890 died 1966

Sidney was a musician, he played clarinet in a well known band (I assume one of the big band sounds?)

My problem is I cannot find the parents of Susan. Obviously they came from Ireland and I do not know which county or when they came across.  Sidney and Susan had a daughter Shirley Wilhelmina Patterson, born 18 August 1939 in Yorkshire. I am not sure if they had more children.  Shirley married John Edward Smith, who I think came from London.

So any help at all please with any more info on this family.

Thank you!

Aunty Gene
